I'm planning on rewiring my postwar rick b/w 6 string and was wondering why the big difference in pot values in the sites given above? 100k for vol and tone at Ely's site for an electro bakelite 6 and 250k vol and 500k tone at Aiello's site for a dustpan. I thought they used the same pickups. Also, ...

Metal Bridge On Superior Weiss

I've read that some folks replaced the bridge on their Superior Weiss with a metal one. What are the advantages, tonal differances, etc? Also, does anyone know if the nut is bone or plastic?

Thanks

The Beard is somewhat tricky and for me takes two hands to change. I have the original Scheerhorn Flux and it's a breeze to swap.

Russ, thanks. I've seen the Johnson tricone at Elderly's site and am somewhat interested. Do you have any first hand experience with it? Howard, the Beard was where I looked first since I have a very nice Beard Vintage Cherry. Plus all the good things folks are saying here about the Beard/Goldtone w...

Replacement Pots For B/W Rick

I have a b/w 6 string Rick lap with 1 1/4" pup. The tone and volume pot do not work properly. Where can I get replacements, and do you know if it would have a negative effect on the tone?

Also, the tuning keys are pretty bad. Any suggestions on replacements?

Thanks,

Terry

Questions About Superior Weiss Copy

I am evaluating one of these (select spruce top)and a couple of things concern me. First of all is the string spacing. I've read the other emails here about that so I suppose it can be fixed, but I've got to wonder why build it like that in the first place? The second concern is about the string hei...

Thanks for all the responses. For now I'm keeping the lap in G because I play it out in a club with some friends and I'm still more comfortable with G. But maybe not for long. I have an Oahu acoustic square neck tuned to open D (151351) and I'm starting to really like that tuning!

Tunings: 135135 vs 151351

Hello everybody. I am a long time guitar player (30+ years) and have been playing dobro (open G, 135135) now for about 2 years. I have a Rick black/white bakelite and am starting to get more into it. I have been playing in open G. I'm not into swing and play mostly old rock/blues. I've messed around...

I am also considering one of Neil Russell's weissenborn copies. Did you order the mahogony or koa?

Russ, the Oahu is no better or worse than the MasterTone which is good, I guess, because it cost half of what the MasterTone did. In all, it's a quiet instrument without a lot of sustain. It has its' own unique voice, however, and for that reason I think I'll keep it. It has not, however, satisfied ...

Neil Russell Weissenborn Copy

I searched the forum for info on a Neil Russell weis copy and found a few posts. Any additional comments would be welcomed. For $925 US, it looks like a pretty good deal, but I've never seen (or heard) one. I torn between the Russell, which I'll have to wait 6 months for, and a Superior, which is av...
