Weissenborn Solo Recording

Post by Terry Goodman »

Does anyone have any sound clips or can you direct me to recordings of a Weissenborn played solo (or with very little accompaniment)?

What do you need it for?

The last track on Lindley's "Win This Record" is a solo instrumental, recorded pretty straight (no effects and probably mostly mic not pickup).

Jerry Douglas' album "Slide Rule" has a couple of solo Weissenborn instrumentals, one of them has a subtle rain effect in the background as I recall...

Bob Brozman albums might be a good place to check for solo Weissenborn stuff, since he tends to record the sound of his instruments pretty faithfully. I don't know enough of his output to be more specific though. There's an extended solo instrumental opening to a Hawaiian Medley on Bob Brozman's "Live Now" CD, but it's on his short scale Kona, not a Weissenborn.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

There's also Ben Harper's debut cd "Welcome To The Cruel World" which is mostly acoustic.

I'll send you an .mp3 of my friend, Thomas, noodling around on my weissenborn as I was testing out Cubase. It is a mix with a microphone and a pickup the world pickup.
I have other soundfiles, but they have singing and/or other instruments with it.
