Sure, the speakers may be the problem - but you also might have some tube issues there, so be sure to have the power tube and pre-amp sections of the circuit checked. It's not uncommon to find modifications on the Fender Silverface (CBS era) amps, trying to re-fit the circuitry back to the older Fen...

I think it is totally okay to express your political opinions during a musical event, especially as it would be the artist's perogative to do so. It's just that I prefer it if the political views expressed are aligned with my own.

It also helps if the music is good, or the beer is strong.

Whatever you do, don't pee directly into or on an an electrical outlet in your house. I'm not a licensed electrician, but I'm qualified to tell you that it would be good to avoid doing this.

If the amplifier is part of your sound (e.g. the cabinet, the speaker, etc.) then I would just put a microphone in front of the speaker. If you play clean, then a direct line might sound just fine. But be aware, that the sound guy at the board will have more control over your EQ in the PA mix.

How do you move up 1/2 a fret? Do you mean a half-step, or 1 chromatic note?

What's even more funny, is that guy has been playing music in his overgrown garden for 37 years. Finally someone captured it on video without disturbing his performance. Such footage is rare. If you've ever been walking around and hearing hawaiian steel guitar riffs in your head, chances are this ma...

One of the best gigs I ever played was in Des Moines, Iowa with the New Anarchy String Band; playing folk music for an anti-death penalty rally in a Thai food restaurant/micro-brewhouse. Fantastic gig! The trailing chorus of our last song was: "This land is your land, this land is Thailand.&quo...

The real answer here is duct tape. Have one of your assistants, or band-mates set you into the chair at the beginning of the set. While you hold your arms up into the air, have them wrap round-and-round with duct tape so you that you are forced to sit with your back flat against the chair. If you ne...

Roman, you are absolutely correct - thanks for the tip. Honestly, the sales person told me it was a tube amp. I've looked online just a bit and saw references to Bronco models with tubes, so I just assumed. So today I opened up the little bugger and that's right - no tubes. But I did see that there ...

Personally, I use a modern Fender Bronco (not the truck) which is a little tube amp with 8" speaker that packs a punch. That works for most smaller, quieter gigs. I also play my Tele through this amp. I also have a 1970-ish Fender Vibrolux Reverb (lots of mods and repairs over the years), which...

Well, darn if I didn't just re-string my guitar absolutely 1 string/note off from the high C6.

I've got a little project for the weekend, but now I've got to find a .012p for the top string, and shift everyone over by 1. Image

That's a nice lookin' salmon you got there Lynn - very appropriate here in the PacNW. I'm curious about the re-finish work and if you'll take it all the way down to the bare wood? (and then re-apply a new white finish)? Nice purchase - let's get together and jam! -mt ------------------ -- Mark Tomli...

My take on this specific style of playing is that it's more about melodic intrepretation and style, than about God or religion or spiritual playing. I think about vocal lines that drift between flatted 3rds, and 7ths - blues type scales. Specific harmonies and arrangements from baptist church choirs...

I use a BOSS FV-500H which has been fantastic addition at the end of the effects chain. Both for lap steel playing, and normal guitar playing it is essential to control over the sound. <bump> I'm curious about the pickup on my lap steel, where it is a single, string-through type (I don't even know what you call it), and not the typical 2 single-coil setup you see on stringmasters. For that C6 standard tuning, it's great for learning the left and right hand techniques, and still sound very capable. The basic reason is that it's a good tuning with 2 octaves (top 4 strings are tuned 1 octave apart the bottom 4 strings). Alternatively, just drop this tuning down 4 notes to A6 (C ...
