At a Steel Jam I talked to Don for a while and he told me that He use mostly the E6 on the songs he did with Hank,,but sometimes he would use the B13 for a kick-off or a run,,one of the songs he did with Hank ( which Is my fav ) where he used the E6 all the way through Is "Why Don't You Love Me...

I was at a Steel Jam that featured Don Helms,and between His sets,I was very fortunate to get to spend about 25 minutes at Don's table where he sold His Tapes etc. just Him and me,we talked about His road days with Hank he had me laughing till my sides hurt talking about stuff Ole Hank pulled on the...

My first sighting of Conway Twitty was on Dick Clarks "American Band Stand",, When his song,"Only Make Believe" was popular ( In the late fifties Im thinking ),,course that's not saying he ( DICK ) did anything for the Country Music catagory ( don't think he ever did ) I watched ...

I'm kinda like Mike,,,I wouldn't call It western Swing,,more in the "Ranger Doug and Riders In The Sky" style,,but I did enjoy It and The Steel break and back ground was fantastic,,the whole band was good,,liked their style of playing....

I saw Porter do this one ( Satisfied Mind ) In person at "The New Dominion Barn Dance" In Richmond Va. back some where between 1958 and 1960,,they did a fantastic show that night,my brother played Steel In another Band that was on the same line-up that night,,I got to meet Porter,wonderful...

Billy your right,,PeeWee and Bob did a fantastic job on that tune "Big Beaver" ( as they did on any thing they played together),,as Ole Waylon always said about Bob Wills being the king of Western Swing and I agree but,,I guess that "The Brazos Valley Boy's" did as good of a job ...

I met Hank snow at "The Jimmy Rodgers Festival" in Meridian Miss in 1953 and there was a guy standing by him who he introduced as "Bruce Gentry" he said he played steel for him,he may have just done that one road show with him...not sure.....

I remember watching George Jones on Austin City Limits one night and My Idol Hank Thompson was his special guest,,when Ole George introduced Hank he said,"Folks,,we all know that Bob Wills Is King Of western Swing,so,this guy here ( Hank ) must be the Queen of Western Swing,,cause He Is hanging...
