I've just read a BBC news report - Phil died from lung disease and complications.

Heartbreaking news - Don & Phil were my favourite popular music act of all time.

Just got the news about Phil passing. I had the pleasure of calling Phil my friend since our tour back in 1965. We became very good friends and kept that friendship for the passed years. We had some GREAT times on the road with guys like Sonny Curtis, Jack Sargent and his brother Don. I sold guitar strings from his string company at my store before moving to Las Vegas. I will miss my friend. Phil, rest in peace my friend.

Sad news, indeed. I saw the brothers in Las Vegas at the Orleans several years ago. Buddy Emmons was working with them, and E was the real reason we went. We did enjoy their music over the years. May Phil rest in peace.

Very Sad news, I will never forget the first song I herd by The Everly Brothers,"I wonder If I Care As Much" some where around 1957 or 58and I've been a devoted fan since. I have most of their songs and I still play them regular also watch them on Youtube a lot..
R I P Phil,,you may be gone but certainly not forgotten.

Another major icon lost. It may be inevitable, but it's still a bummer.

Like Billy, I saw the brothers with Buddy Emmons and Albert Lee, playing at the Orange Country fair, before a crowd of 6,000 people. (I also went to see Buddy.) They were ON FIRE!. It was one of the best shows I ever saw.

Of course, they sang all their old hits. It occurred to me later, that they sang those same songs every time they performed, and they must have been really tired of them. But you sure couldn't tell that from the way they performed.

Very sad news. BBC TV news have just interviewed Albert Lee live by telephone, and Albert sounded very upset and subdued (naturally). I was lucky enough to see the brothers with Buddy and Albert at a local theatre, and they were all sensational.

It's major news here, and Phil was just described as half of the greatest rock & roll vocal duo of all time. All I know is that without the Everlys it's unlikely that there would have been any Beatles. Pass the Chicken & Listen is still one of my all time favourite albums.

Chet Atkins once described Phil's as the 'voice of an angel'.

The Everly Brothers were the reason I wanted to play music. Their voices, on "Bye Bye Love" and "I Wonder If I Care As Much", made the hair on the back of my neck stand up - as did the acoustic guitar intro on "Bye Bye Love"! Phil also wrote and produced many fantastic records as a solo artist. This is a very sad day. I send sincere condolences to Phil's family.

It's hard to imagine what the musical landscape might have sounded like without Phil and Don. Their records were always just about the music and I'll never forget the effect those wonderful guitar-driven intros would have on me all thos years ago.

I saw them many times - notably in the early years when they'd come to Britain with an exciting array of stellar American musicians (not the least being the tour they did with the Crickets behind them), the dress-suits with tails and a pair of Gibson J-200s catching the spotlights and dazzling us all.

Then there was the reunion at Albert Hall, London in 1983 (Gerry will remember us hiding in the darkened stalls of the Dominion, Tottenham Court Road along with Dave Edmunds and watching their rehearsals!); a triumphant return which would eventually lead to Buddy Emmons going on the road with them - thanks to Albert, I got 'in with the band' quite a few times after that.

I also love 'Pass The Chicken...', Ken, but my favourite LP will always be 'It's Everly Time' - their first on Warner Bros in 1960, great songs with the Nashville 'A' team and featuring Jimmy Day along with Chet. Just too many great musical moments to mention....

I know they were pretty much retired and their important work was done but it's always a shock to hear that someone who influenced you so much has gone for ever.

Very sad. Another great duo no more, music I fondly enjoyed even as a young 15 year old! I recall them having a steel player that played a left hand guitar but not sure who it was.

Kevin: That was guitarist Martin Jenner who was in their band for the Reunion of September, '83.

A number of the guys in the Everly's band were members of Cliff Richard's band at the time which led to a connection between Phil and Cliff - and a great big hit record: 'She Means Nothing To Me'.

Sadly Martin, as well as drummer Graham Jarvis, is no longer with us.

I was very proud and excited to find myself doing a session with Phil at Eden Studios in Chiswick, west London immediately before the Reunion. I have a photo somewhere with both of us, and Phil is cradling my old J-200. I must find it.

I played that 'Cathy's Clown' as an instrumental at the SWSGA show last year. The harmony line uses the unison splitting effect so popular on modern pedal steel.

Buddy Emmons and Albert Lee were touring with them some years back, and I went to see them. Great artists, no doubt. I always felt that I couldn't tell which line was the melody - both were equally melodic. 'So Sad' www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT6Jls14U28

RIP Phil, Well done!

I was lucky to see the brothers twice once in Atlantic City, with the big E, and again with Buddy in Myrtle Beach, SC while on vacation at my parents house.

John Hartford's son was on guitar for both shows.

At the AC show we got to hang out at the bar after the show with buddy for a few glasses of Lemonade, as buddy said along with Jim Cohen and Dave Van Allen. I still have Buddy's signed backstage pass.

Talking with my mom today who just turned 74, she said she had a crush on them as a teenager in Cleveland, Ohio.

My buddy who also is a big fan of the brothers, said he read that at one point the Stones played at a show in England with the Everlys, and Charlie Watts was embarrassed to play after them since their drummer was so good. The drummer was a 17 year old Jim Gordon.

One of favorite songs of theirs was 'Born Yesterday' from the mid eighties, that Don wrote, they had a long long and brilliant career.

My condolences to his family, Don and everyone who knew and played with Phil
