Johnny will be sorely missed by family amd many friends, which I include myself among. Johnny gave me my third road job in Nashville and I was there for almost three years, during which time I played on his and Miss Kittys' records at Bradleys Barn, where I met Charlie McCoy, Grady Martin, Harold Bradley, Pig Robbins and many others, helping to get my foot in the door. I lost a few toes in the process but it turned out alright.
During that time Johnny also lended me money for the down payment on my first house in Nashville. Johnny was a pill to work for sometime, but I've been reminded a lot since then that I was no picnic either, so we got along very well, and he was like a father to me on many occasions, several of them long after I worked for him.
I think about Johnny and Kitty and the family a lot and I will surely miss him.

While I worked with the Late Dick Curless, I had the pleasure of being on several shows with Johnny & Kitty and Bobby. What great people they were/are. Genuine right to the core. I know that Johnny will be missed by all his family and friends.

I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Johnny Wright. I met Mr. Wright in the late seventies when the Kitty Wells/Johnny Wright/Bobby Wright show came through Dolores, Colorado. Johnny and Ms. Kitty were both friendly and approachable, and their band put on a family-type show. There was no drinking, smoking, or profanity on stage. The band all wore matching suits and ties, and Mr Wright wore a blue western suit, red boots, and a red cowboy hat. Their steel man, George Edwards, came over and talked about his Sho-Bud D10 and life on the road. They were on their way to Hawaii soon after their Colorado tour.

Condolances to Johhny's family.

I was very fortunate to have attended a Kitty Wells concert in S.W. Minnesota in 1960. Johnny & Jack, Bill Phillips, Bobby Wright & Marvin Rainwater were on that show. I don't recall who was playing steel for Kitty then, but it may have been Jimmy Crawford. :?:

Johnny Wright

Post by Dave A. Burley »

This weekend I visited Johnnys final resting place while I was in Nashville.. Johnny is buried in Spring Hill cemetary on Gallatin road almost to the Briley Parkway exit and is about a plot or two above Roy Acuff, to the left, and almost in between Roy and the Bill Monroe memorial. I understand that Eddie Stubbs had spoken to Johnny just a few weeks before his death. 97 years old. Almost 74 years of marriage to one lady, the great Kitty Well's. I had bluegrass showcases on E. Broadway and couldn't attend the funeral but had many friends that did. Although his death was somewhat expected at 97, it is still a shocking loss to Kitty.
The last package show I produced featured the Kitty Wells show with Johnny and son Bobby along with Faron Young, Little Jimmy Dickens, Ferlin Husky and Jack Green. What great memories from that day and other shows we promoted with Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright.
Rest in peace Johnny and condolences to the Wright family.
