It is really a treat to get to see and hear Buck Reid. He is a master player and a gentleman to boot. He can flat jazz the steel like nobody else.

I have recently purchased an older SE 200 and I love it. I'm still tweaking the controls and would like some opinion of the Depth and Expand knobs. Scruff is not recommended to use at all on the steel guitar. What are your settings on this amp? many thanks

Building a rack mount

Is it just too expensive and not all that productive to build a modest rack mount amp and effects amplifier? Pre-amp, delay, tube power 200 watts. With a 15" bass cabinet sounds too good to be true? What's the word? Many thanks, Jim

on the E9th I tune the G#s about 4 cents # and on the C 6th I tune both E's also about 4 cents sharp of 440. The E 9th tuning was suggested to me by Charlie Ward. I just tried it on the C6th as well. The chords on the 6th neck sound full and even to me. Tempered tuning usually has some pitfalls. Thi...

I know many of you will disagree, but I tune both necks only slightly sharp on the thirds. This is easy and to my ear works very well.

Slowly but surely on C6th

I agree with the suggestions to try the Jeff Newman and Herby Wallace courses. Part 1 and 2 Swingin by Jeff is a real gem and gets you going pretty quickly. If you like those beautiful fat chord voicings you'll be sure to progress. It does take some time. Be patient.

If you really love the sound of the pedal steel your chances of at least playing a few simple tunes are nearly 100%. Many factors can limit your success, but perseverence pays off. I just looked at Jeff Newman's C6th Swingin part 2. He clearly states "be prepared to spend 5 or 6 years or more m...
