Yup, it's a patchweld where the C6th was..

I just looked closely at the guitar and there is indeed a patchweld on the end plate - and a darned good one, too! I've had this guitar in the store for 2 weeks and I never noticed it until a sharp-eyed forum member spotted it in the endplate reflection.

Sho-Bud update i It's a real Sho-bud but not an LDG...

FYI, I just received this email from a knowledgeable Forumite: Hi Don, Thanks so much for the pics. What you have there is a late '60s Baldwin-era Sho~Bud. I can't say for sure from the pics, but I assume it started out life with two necks. What a nice guitar, though. Does it still have the rack and...

Sho-Bud Compactra 100 Custom tube amplifier built by Evans

As I understand it, Jim Evans built less than 40 of these Compactra 100 Custom tube amps for Sho-Bud between 1965 - 1969. Mr. Evans would build the tube amplifiers in Texas and then ship the completed chassis to Sho-Bud in Nashville where they were inserted into a cabinet with a 15" speaker (by...

Hey Forum Folks -
I keep uploading pics to the forum. It says they successfully uploaded but they don't appear in my posts. So please email me for LDG pics or tell me what I'm doing wrong with my uploaded pics. This is my first attempt at a post with photos.
Thanks -

F/S Sho-Bud LDG..well, not exactly an LDG apparently..

I just opened a new music store in Sacramento - Village Guitar Werkes (Plek Station) on December 23 and I stock some steel guitar stuff - mostly lap steels, dobro and non-pedal strings, bars, picks etc. Here's what I know - this older gentleman brought this steel in. (Along with it he also brought a...

Since nobody asked, let me chime in anyway.....

That's gotta be a Truetone pickup unless someone is making knockoffs which is not very likely. I would like to point out that although the new price of this steel would seem to be $2850 ($250 extra for the additional knee lever and pedal, plus $100 for the wood neck), the price list on the Williams ...

If I'm not mistaken, Gibson's squad of lawyers recently suffered a bitter loss to PRS in regard to body design issues. Also, apparently Fender doesn't actually own Gretsch Guitars. I was under that impression too until I was informed by a Gretsch employee at the recent NAMM show that Fender owns the...

You are sooooo right...

I tried to learn pedal steel in the 1980's. mid 1990's and in 2003. As a 6 string spanish guitar player, it was too frustrating and made little sense to me. After a few years of concentrating on dobro and 6 string lap steels, I moved up to a mid '50s 8-string triple neck Stringmaster. I learned so m...

BMI Status

I emailed BMI 6 weeks ago inquiring about ordering one of their Speedy West Model D-10's. Like you, I was ignored by BMI. I guess they're either too busy or not busy at all and sent everyone home. As you know, BMI in its various incarnations, has been a major player in this industry for a very long ...

These pickups will change everything

I have been a proponent of these Lace Alumitones since I bought 308 of them from Lace when they first came out in 2007. I have built several electric Spanish guitars with Aluma-90's and Alumibuckers. I have sold over 180 on eBay and I still have some gold Aluma-90's listed for about half of their re...

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but from my experience in the high desert*, it's a very powerful and strongly spiritual place. Kind of like how Bob Nolan wrote about it.

They moved to Branson in 2003

In the spring of 2003, I had the pleasure of archiving all of Roy Rogers acetate recordings and some old 16" electronic transcription discs from the late 1930's and early 1940's that played at 16 and 2/3 RPM. I always wondered what that "16" speed was for on some of the old record pla...

Repro Bigsby Electric Spanish Guitars

According to the folks at the Bigsby booth at the NAMM show yesterday, these guitars were built in Japan a few years ago and sold out. They actually had one fairly plain version in the booth that looked new on Thursday but had suffered a couple of nasty dings and dents by the show's closing yesterday.

It is borderline creepy but...

If it gets more folks singing and sparks their interest in music, I don't see any problem with it. And it's certainly better than "Guitar Hero" etc. And, unlike karaoke, it won't put musicians out of work. In fact, more of the 'Karaoke Krowd' can now stay at home singing into their 'Songsm...

Jim - There is an MSA pedal steel case for sale on eBay, item number 120329565184. Looks like as sd-10 or 12 case and it's only $40, not a bad deal if it will work for you. I don't know about the collectible aspect, but if you're gonna play it, it has the same features as a mid-50's Fender Stringmaster - Long scale necks, dual pickups on each neck, volume and Speedy West Boo-wah knob (sometimes referred to as a tone control) - for less than half the price of the more c...

Hi Danny and congratulations on your bakelite Ric. If you end up playing this guitar as much as I think you will, you'll put your own wear and scratches on it anyway, so why go to all the trouble to shine it up? It's a Dynalap brand lapsteel

It's a Dynalap lapsteel. They sell for $225 new as a kit exactly like the guitar in the pics, including the Wallace Truetone pickup. You can checkout the website at: www.dynalap.com
