I visited this museum a number of years ago. Roy was in his office there at the time and I got to meet him and got a picture with him. What a thrill that was!

Sorry to hear about the closing. If you are ever in The Branson Area--they have moved it to there.

Dusty Rogers,Roy and Dale's son is running the museum in Branson, and is doing well. Dusty has some CD's out and is a fine singer. When in Branson visit the museum. It's supposed to be the same as it was in Victorville. It's been in Branson for years.

They moved to Branson in 2003

Post by Don Wright »

In the spring of 2003, I had the pleasure of archiving all of Roy Rogers acetate recordings and some old 16" electronic transcription discs from the late 1930's and early 1940's that played at 16 and 2/3 RPM. I always wondered what that "16" speed was for on some of the old record players/turntables. Now I know. I was hired by Roy's son, Roy Jr. who goes by the name Dusty. He wanted all the discs safely archived when the museum closed in Victorville, Ca, in April 2003. The Rogers family wanted the museum to stay in Victorville but the city was not very cooperative with the Rogers family after Roy died, so they moved the museum to Branson.
I produced some CD box sets of old remastered Roy Rogers radio shows with Dale Evans, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Pat Butram etc. that are available through the museum gift shop in Branson and on their website. They're great fun to listen to, but don't expect much, if any, steel guitar. I think the experience had somewhat of an effect on me. When my son was born in June of 2003, I named him 'Dusty'.[/code]

Chris -
I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but from my experience in the high desert*, it's a very powerful and strongly spiritual place. Kind of like how Bob Nolan wrote about it.
* The desert was high. I wasn't.

When I was about 5 years old, Roy and Dale were the featured guests of the Christmas parade in Memphis, well besides Mr. Claus of course. My brother and I were big fans, so our parents took us up there from Mississippi to stay in the Hotel Peabody and see the parade. What memories. In those days every Saturday afternoon they would send us to the movie with a quarter. It cost 15 cents to get in, and a nickel each for a bag of popcorn and a soda. There'd be cartoon, a serial (usually Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen), and then we'd see Roy, or Gene, or Red Ryder, or Hopalong, or Lash LaRue.

Happy Trails :)

1) The Roy Rogers museum is NOT gone. It was moved to Branson.
2) Branson is NOT in Tennesee. It is in the state of Missouri.

Chris, I think that you are on to something there.
