I soaked them in lacquer thinner and then used a small wire brush. Then I sprayed on a coat of XIM Primer. Next comes the krinkle paint (2 coats), then the oven. But how long should I bake it and at what temperature? Thanks,Steve

MSA - Refinishing the pedals

I want to re-paint the pedals on my old MSA. They have some kind of textured black finish. I was wondering if anyone knows what it is and/or where to get it.

Thanks

I use an electric heating pad to sit on. You'd be amazed at how well this works. Once you get your body temperature up your hands loosen up. It's easier to carry than a heater and works better, IMO.

Joey, Thanks for that. I've been curious for the answer since your other post. I think these kind of 'moves' with the bar and volume pedal provide much of the expressive nature of the steel guitar, and make up a significant part of a player's style.

The BEST thing I've found is a canvas carrying case for a camera. They have lots of zippered pouches that are perfect for bars, picks, string winders, etc. I always load it the same way so if I need something in a hurry I know just what pouch to look in.

John, been there. I used play with a band that would rehearse without breaks for hours and it really took a toll on my knees and left ankle. If your getting up there in years like me (50) you need to take a break once in a while. I have the L120 pedal too and I have raised the back end of the pedal ...

Dayton, Barry IS an awesome player, both on guitar and steel. He does play an S12(with lots of knee levers). A couple of years ago a band I played with (Desert Sage) opened up for DNB at the LaVida Roadhouse and again at a private party for producer,Howard Frieberg. One gig I played guitar and the n...

Jeff, I don't think any choice of material presented to HER is going to "dispell any myths". I would see this as an opportunity to get people out to SEE a steel being played, which is vastly more impressive than just hearing it. If you want to catch fish, you gotta use the right bait. Get ...

Why mess around? Just play "Someday Soon" for her ("Teach" isn't a bad idea either). An instrumental may be too much for someone who already thinks of PSG as "that twangy thing". Let her hear how it sounds with a singer. My opinion...

Allen, I think it's a good idea to get a song down pat. Then when you are working on your technique and tone you can consentrate better on that. After you feel comfortable with the song and your technique you can try skipping around and seeing where those licks and progressions fit into other songs....

Marty, what is your problem? It is not so much your opinions that people take offense to. It's your offensiveness. I've seen many of your other posts and it seems that you get off on insulting and trashing everything and every one. And you get a kick out of it... How perverse! I don't care about you...

Rex, I was just kidding around about the P/P. My point was that I bought a Derby because it sounds like a Derby, not some other guitar. Jerry, thank you for helping to set the record straight. When I read Frank's comments I was concerned that some folks might get the wrong idea about Derby Steels and that would truly be a shame. Doyle, I would tailor the set list to suit the crowd. Use the most traditional sounding songs. Keep effects to a minimum. The bluegrass crowd respects real talent. The steel guitar will replace the fiddle and/or dobro. So turn the steel up and put your heart into it. They will love it! my $.02
