Nylon bar for dobro effect

I guess these came with the Goodrich effect that gave a dobro sound (I forgot the name of it...Match Bro?).
Anyway, I'd like to find one to experiment with, although I suppose I could buy a 1" nylon rod and, well you know...

This instrument of ours and the passion it creates has produced some pioneers and ultimately legends in the pedal steel. Bob was one of them. He had the foresight to organize such a great association, the PSGA, and the determination to bring annual concerts to the northeast before anyone else did. A...

Thanks for the info guys. At first I thought the six strings were meant to be played with a bar and picks like a lapsteel. Now I see that it is played by fretting while holding it horizontal I guess, so yes, must be clumsy to play

Another strange bird spotted in antique store

So this seems slightly above the quirky novelty type guitar aberrations from long ago but not enough quality that I could bring myself to buy it.
100% for cool looks though….

Six string guitar pickup

I have a Harley Benton acoustic guitar which I love (look them up…excellent import guitar line) but it did not come with a pickup. No problem, I installed a fabulous piezo pickup K&K Pure Mini Acoustic Guitar Pickup https://a.co/d/cXc119g and love the sound. I’d like to have a volume pot mounted...

Recording steel with a compressor

Ok my question is not nearly as high tech as it might sound. I’m doing old school recording to a Tascam hard drive recorder, only on board effect is reverb. That’s fine but lately my volume pedal control has gotten a little choppy and I could really use some compression to smooth out the peaks and v...

I loved the “midnight” Texas swing dance (held at 10:00!) probably most of all. I wish Mike Siler got to sing more but when that whole band jumped in together it was like hearing the Bob Wills band. Unlike the main hall, video recording was allowed….I’d love to post something here but I think it nee...

Ralph Mooney guitars

This double neck GFI and unusual Fender steel were in the GFI room. Supposedly Ralph made the fender when he worked for them. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/1239_DD0395A45655474E9408BC8DEB04AC06_1.jpg https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/1239_9DD340B2A62540BB91C708E8F5954537_1.jp...

TSGA Jamboree as of Friday

Not as many vendors this year, notably missing Jackson Guitars, Emmons 65, Telonics, Sierra…might have been others. Also Randy Beavers and Ron Miller were absent, I think due to illness. Highlight of course was Sarah Jory’s Friday night set. She played around with C’est La Vie brilliantly, softening...

Great news! PSGA is a true pioneer organization that helped promote the pedal steel guitar and expose New England fans to some of the best players in the country.
Glad to hear it’s still going. Have many fond memories from the shows!

Travel guitars (six string)

I want to purchase a guitar to keep in my camper. I first looked at the Martin backpacker but seemed to have virtually no guitar sound at all. I know there’s various mini and baby models out there but when I read reviews they say they’re good if you have small hands (I don’t). Any suggestions? I’m l...

This is an odd duck of finger picks but I love them when I play dobro. Don’t remember where I bought them but I’d like a few more but can’t find them online. Anyone have an idea?

Randy Beavers at TSGA

So many magic moments at the jamboree but I was so impressed with the playing of Randy Beavers….especially and specifically how he played fabulous jazz C6 sounds on his single neck three pedal Zumsteel! Amazing technique and of course it was great to see him back out playing again.

Marty, it’s a rare musician who can walk away from touring/gigging like you stated. Very very wise decision to enjoy life while you can get the most out of it. You won’t regret it.

Best guitar for Texas swing rhythm

So all I’ve ever played besides steel is tele, strat and a Martin. I’ve been jamming a lot with friends and playing Texas swing plus old jazz/pop standards from the 40’s and 50’s and of course can’t quite get that big fat rhythm sound from any of those.
Any suggestions?
