TSGA Jamboree as of Friday

Post by Tony Palmer »

Not as many vendors this year, notably missing Jackson Guitars, Emmons 65, Telonics, Sierra…might have been others.
Also Randy Beavers and Ron Miller were absent, I think due to illness.
Highlight of course was Sarah Jory’s Friday night set. She played around with C’est La Vie brilliantly, softening down to a whisper for some fun then came crashing back, and of course a soulful close with Mansion on the Hill. Sounded absolutely better than ever.
Was very impressed with a young guy Jack Philips.
And Eddy Ortego and friends (dobro and all acoustic) killed it both in the non pedal room and the main stage!
Just going from memory didn’t take notes but thought I’d give an update.

Thanks, Tony!!

Don't get yourself thrown out, though. :)

I think he may allow it. He's promoting his tuning.

My traveling days are over, sadly, or we'd be there too.

Have fun!!!

Ralph Mooney guitars

This double neck GFI and unusual Fender steel were in the GFI room. Supposedly Ralph made the fender when he worked for them.

I loved the “midnight” Texas swing dance (held at 10:00!) probably most of all. I wish Mike Siler got to sing more but when that whole band jumped in together it was like hearing the Bob Wills band. Unlike the main hall, video recording was allowed….I’d love to post something here but I think it needs to be uploaded to YouTube first.

Gene Fields built the Fender when HE worked at There. I don't think Ralph ever worked at Fender.

The PS210 was a Gene Fields creation. This looks like a modified/customized PS210.

Johnny posted his seminar (39 minutes) on his Facebook page. All is well!

Emmons wasn't there since they'd just opened their store in Sevierville, Tennessee. When I went to Emmons Guitar Co. in February, I asked the guy working there named Kaleb Wright if Emmons would be at the Dallas show and he said no because they'd just opened the shop and needed to do more work in it

That PS210 was Gene's personal guitar. The front neck is fretted with very low action and Gene played it horizontally with his fingers in the style of Thumbs Carlisle. The rear neck is played standard style with a bar.

The rear legs are removed and the back of the guitar is supported by the drumseat contraption fastened to the rear apron.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
