Best guitar for Texas swing rhythm

Post by Tony Palmer »

So all I’ve ever played besides steel is tele, strat and a Martin. I’ve been jamming a lot with friends and playing Texas swing plus old jazz/pop standards from the 40’s and 50’s and of course can’t quite get that big fat rhythm sound from any of those.
Any suggestions?

An archtop Gibson. One of the ES or L models.
Or you could string up your Tele with 11’s or 12’s, flip to the neck pickup, and chunk away on some Freddie Green chords.

The best Western swing rhythm ever played was played on a Fender Stratocaster
