Did anybody try to use a zoom r8/16/24 as both preamp (from psg via VP to recorder guitar input to preamp input on Nashville 112) and as recorder (of lineout signal). Is this worth trying? I could just try it, but all the cabling seems intimidating and time consuming.
Thanks
John

MXR carbon copy or Boss DD-7?
Is there a significant difference between MXR carbon copy delay and Boss' digital delay DD-7 when you only need a little delay for pedal steel?
Thanks

Ed, I also started with PSG in mid-life. I'm very happy with my Peterson HD strobe tuner, so easy, and good enough for my ears. Don't get their phone app though. Also happy with my GFI SM, great quality and I can play all the stuff I want to play. But one needs a great volume pedal. My ernie ball su...

4 page article about Emmons in CMP
Just picked up British Country Music People BMP's september issue, nice article about the legacy of Buddy Emmons. Also some sad news about Lloyd Green... hope he will be well soon.

Tuner and preamp/recorder
I'm thinking of getting a Peterson strobe, but not sure about best placement. I run my PSG -> Hilton VP (unmodded) -> Zoom R8 recorder as preamp -> power amp input on Peavey Nashville 112. Where can I put in a tuner in this chain with the least impact on the sound?
Thanks in advance

Doug, can I ask how you record your steel guitar? I record with line out from Nashville 112 and also directly to computer, but cannot get the same clean steely sound that you get on your beautiful recordings accompanying this great book. I use the string gauges that you recommend at the beginning of...

Thumb pick question (again)
My ordinary Dunlop thumb pick that I have used for several years on lap steels and pedal steel broke after a few hours playing a Gretsch Jim Dandy acoustic guitar with steel strings. Can anyone recommend a thumb pick that is good for both steel guitar and ordinary guitar?
Thanks in advance

Hi Ben, I have the same guitar as you - though not the same problem. I tune to the Peterson sweetened SE9 and SP9 tunings with the Peterson iphone app via the special mic cable. Before that I tuned to the standard tuning. And always following GFI's tuning instructions for the SM. Never had any probl...

Cover for pedal steel
I was looking at the vinyl covers for sale in www.steelguitarscanada.com. What's the general consensus about the usefulness of such a cover to help keep the pedal steel in tune longer?
Thanks

Amp position - what a change
I have always played with my Nashville 112 amp standing behind me on the floor and was never that happy with the tone, but thought it was due to my technique or student model GFI - but just a few days ago I put my amp on a small IKEA table which raised it 16 inches and immediately the most beautiful...

Tuning a GFI s-10sm with tempered tunings
Hello! I have a question concerning tuning my E-strings with Peterson's SE9 and SP9 tunings? GFI's instructions want me to tune the E-strings to D# first with the keys while engaging the LKR and then open E and F (with the LKL) with the nylon nuts. SP9 is for levers and pedals, but as D# is tuned bo...

I think Tabledit works great for PSG. When you have applied Pedal Steel Guitar in the module, you just click e.g. SHIFT+A to get a Pedal A pitch change. No need to open the Pitch Change window if you are happy with the copedents. I didn't change anything. All seems to work fine now in the Mac versio...
