Re: The strings
I’m wondering about the sound coming from the strings. It may be digitally changed through the amp but you still have the acoustic sound from the strings that are not changed. I would think that would be very distracting. This might be a good tool for experimenting with different setups and tunings...

Brand new Excel Robostar (Fuzzy)
Ordered in September, just arrived this week. Planned on keeping this and my current steel but situations change so I’m gonna sell this. Brand new - set up to test and take pics and back in the case. 3 pedals, 5 knees, keyless, really smooth, cool black sparkle mica and polished aluminum, very light...

If you follow the steps that others have provided in this thread, you are going in the right order. But for good measure I’d start by backing off the string 1 and 2 tuning rods, tuning those strings open and then tuning the 1 and 2 raises with RKL engaged. Then just move on to the steps others have ...

Michael, today’s going to be too busy and tomorrow I’m working all day. In any case I’m not sure what other helpful info I could impart beyond what’s in this thread. I think you should reinstall the split rod, follow the directions herein to set up the split, starting with backing out the tuning nut...

Michael, I don’t know how you had it set up but the proper setup is described in my second post. Reference the diagram here: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtop ... d3c172f0c1
And make sure nothing is overtuned on RKL per my previous post. .

Michael, I’m fairly busy today but if I have time I’ll give you a call, but it’s going to be tough. What you are describing really sounds to me like an overtuning problem. Have you tried backing off ALL tuning nuts operated by the RKL and retuning? In other words not just the string lower but raises...

Michael, I’d recommend following the steps in Ian Worley’s last post and letting us know where the problem arises. Splits go out of tune like any other string raise or lower (or open). Confirm that there is no overtuning of the rods and follow the steps Ian outlined above and let’s us know exactly w...

For a little more detail… email GFI and tell Bob you want a pull kit to add a 6th string split rod. The rod connects from the 1st hole (closest to body) on the bell crank to the top raise hole. When tuning you will tune the B pedal as normal. You’ll tune RKL using the split rod you just added. Then ...

Thanks guys. All helpful input. I have been spending more time focusing on my right hand technique so I think it’s bubbling this issue up to the surface for me and I’m probably getting a little hung up on it. In any case I do think some of this is technique as some have mentioned and not getting my ...

Well, typically I don’t have them curved that much, TBH. I’ve been trying them that way recently. Doesn’t help my problem. Maybe it’s a little bit worse. I tried the Dunlop years ago and had the problem that Jeff mentioned. And they hurt like hell. The Acri are very comfortable. I’m also trying some...

Picking issue, incidental string contact
I’ve got a problem with the top/right edge of my fingertip (see area circled in photo) brushing against or grabbing the string above strings plucked with my middle finger. It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens enough to be problematic. Sometimes the already short nail grabs it, sometimes the...

I use a method that I developed on my own and I can’t imagine that I’m the only one to use this: I place the blade of my thumb pick 12 frets from the bar and pick the string with the finger pick on my middle finger in a sort of ‘finger-snap’ fashion. I adopted this method for two main reasons. It a...
