Cool, I've now got a lot of phasers to try out! They appear to have the Flanger Hoax in my nearest guitar shop, looks pretty crazy, will try and get down there on Saturday. Yes, Christine's Tune was probably a bad example of what I meant. Another forumite has pointed out that if anything it's probab...

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Like I said I only wanted to get a vaguely similar phase sound rather than attempting the impossible task of sounding just like Pete. I'll try out some more phasers next time I get to a guitar shop. How are you doing Jim? My better half and I met you and your friend ...

Phaser Pedal for Sneaky Pete-ish sound?

I'm thinking of buying a phaser pedal for using with PSG and regular guitar. For PSG I'd like to get a "reasonably" Sneaky Pete sound a la Christine's Tune or Take it Easy etc (I have no grandiose expectations of sounding exactly like him... ) I tried out the EHX Small Stone and MXR ...

Yes the pedal board is made out of wood and it does bend a little bit when you use the pedals. However in my experience this doesn't seem to have any obvious negative effect on tuning etc so isn't really a big deal. I imagine it could annoy some people but not me.

Hi Clete, Cool thread, it was me that emailed you about the LKL and the Vice Grip. What's confuses me is: do you mean vice grip as in the standard locking pliers kind aka mole grips. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0912/7331_images_1.jpg or do you mean something more fancy like this http://bb....

Cheers!

Hi Bernie, It's from the album Sweetheart Of The Rodeo by The Byrds. The whole record is full of amazing steel playing from Lloyd and JayDee. If you have iTunes, you can hear the steel break to this song in the free 30 second clip they have in the store. I thoroughly recommend buying the 2 cd versio...

Cool!

I've only just come back to this solo after forcing myself to get better at palm blocking with Right Hand Alpha (I've been playing PSG a couple of years and progressing fairly slowly).

Hope you have some fun with it. :D

Hi Rick, I'm working on this at the moment - that fast, chromatic palm blocking lick at the end of the break is killing me! I have the tab printed out but I can't remember where I got it from (I assume it was from this forum but I can't find it now). Leave it with me, and if worse comes to worst, I ...

Hi, This is the closest I could get to it this afternoon. I'm pretty sure he's using a full tone lower on the D lever, 2nd string but I don't have this on my Carter Starter (I did a slant and it sounded about right though). I got slightly confused for the last few notes when everything else comes ba...

Thanks loads for this and the break Dick, great stuff. I really like Jeannie's voice too. When the intro is at the 5th fret, squeezing the A pedal, in the / Quick \ bit - I can hear the 10th string going up and down too. What do you reckon? I know you weren't doing it note for note but thought i'd a...

Thanks a lot for your reply Bob. Annoying overtones when using overdrive

Hi, Not sure if this has been covered before. I have a Carter Starter and a late 1990s 3 channel Fender "Twin Amp" I've been messing about with the overdrive channel for a rock jam tonight and get very intrusive overtones. If I play strings 4+5 together and engage the A pedal, as the strin...

I play a bit of mandolin. It's only a cheapo one and does what I need it to for recordings etc. I've neglected getting any better at it since buying a pedal steel, steel takes up all my brain power.

I own a Carl Martin Red Repeat which I really like the sound of with steel. It is part of their budget range but is based on the Delayla. Thanks for your input Brad and Tom. The guy said they do the 6-string version for £299, that's the most I want to spend. Vintage lap steels seem a bit thin on the ground over here and the few I have seen are above my price range. They apparently have a vintage Gibson in the same shop but that is £65...

Bennett Lap Steel, opinions?

Hi, I'm mainly concentrating on learning pedal steel but am thinking of getting a (far more portable) lap steel too, so that I can work on right/left hand technique when I'm away from home. Music Ground in Manchester have a couple of Bennett lap steels that I haven't had a chance to check out yet, d...
