Hi Marc, I've been working on this one too. Lloyd Green's palm blocking lick is really tricky but it's great practice. Here's my tab, near as I can get it. I'll tab the rest of the song at some point but you may have to be patient!

You're welcome Marc. I've updated the tab above and hopefully it now has slightly more accurate note durations (still rough).

Here is the intro lick. The triplet on the downbeat of the third bar is a little hard to make out because there's an overlapping piano hit, but I think I've got it close. More to come when I get time...

Here are the fills from the first verse. This is why I love Lloyd Green's playing so much, doesn't matter how simple or how difficult, he does exactly what's right for the song. Sheer class.

Glad to hear it Mark, keep practicing! Here is the full steel break (first time around). There's no real chorus to this song, just this awesome pedal steel refrain

I've tacked on the palm blocking lick and removed it from my earlier post so everything is now in the right order. Apologies for any innacuracies in the notation. Bridge licks coming soon...

Thanks Jonathan. Just a bit of trivia; I was told that album cover with the two girls, were two in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, that were in the area when Ron Lashley Sr. asked them to pose for the picture. I just happened to be curious at the time. If I'm wrong someone feel free to correct me

Hi Bernie,

It's from the album Sweetheart Of The Rodeo by The Byrds. The whole record is full of amazing steel playing from Lloyd and JayDee.

If you have iTunes, you can hear the steel break to this song in the free 30 second clip they have in the store. I thoroughly recommend buying the 2 cd version though as there's loads of cool out takes etc.

To me, it sounds like all of the chicken pickin' over the V chord is done on the 3rd and 5th strings and the 5th string is double picked. Example below in the spirit, if not the letter, of the recording.

So, pick the 3rd and 5th strings with index and middle fingers, then the 5th string again with your thumb. Poke your thumb out a bit more. Try it without moving your bar at first. It takes practice not to cut the 5th string off with your pick. IMHO.

Hey Jonathan, thanks for doing this! What program are you using to get the standard notation and steel tab combo? I've been transcribing some stuff and want to write it out that way, but can't get Finale to do it. Its nice to be able to come back later and look at the dots to just sight read it quickly, but have the fingerings (as it were) underneath. Thanks!

Jack you are welcome. I used TablEdit. The notation is generated when you put in the tab and you can edit it, but my knowledge is a bit shaky there so while I think most of the timing is close enough, there are probably loads of errors in the notation itself.
