Mullen PRP - a pleasant surprise
Recently acquired a 1989 Mullen PRP SD-10. Finally got it set up the way I like it and boy does it play nice! I also have a Williams S-10 and, while both equally playable they fit into completely different environments sonically. The Williams has an Alumatone pickup and gives a very forward, lead-le...

What a difference a quarter turn makes!
Just received a Mullen PRP (1989) last week and noticed that the sustain up on the neck wasn't what I was expecting. Kinda thunka-thunka. I'd read somewhere on here about tightening cabinet screws, and sure enough, my little Mullen had some play around the corners. I tightened up the four screws on ...

Shout out to Damir Besic
Hey I just wanted to offer props to Damir - I just received my second guitar from him (Mullen PRP SD-10) and, like the Carter I bought from him in 2019, it was extremely under-represented in his literature and is a gem up close. Both guitars arrived perfectly set up, play very well and cosmetically ...

Now that I have the guitar, one more question re: the tuners
OK I received the guitar and the built-in tuners are fantastic - better than others by a long shot. Very precise.
Is there a method or need for lubrication of these tuners?
Boy this guitar is something else!!

Why would I check with them? They provided me a price quote and it seems high. My choice is to find a different alternative; not to call them and beg for a lower price. As for 'bashing' Mullen I see no evidence of that in my post, and in fact when I saw things headed in that direction I made sure an...

Shipping is crazy Mullen wants $213 to ship $110 parts!!
I stopped by Mullen's website to pick up a few spare parts for my 1989 PRP that is coming next week. I'm excited to get the guitar, but wanted to change the copedent a bit and get some extra clips 'n' screws and stuff - and a cover for an SD-10. Total probably less than 5 pounds and would fit in a n...

Question about Mullen PRP tuners
OK, so I have a Mullen PRP SD-10 coming from a forum member. I've noticed it has integrated tuners that are built into the headstock rather than bolt-on tuners like other steels I have had. Mullen says I can send them in if the tuners go bad, and have them rebuilt, or replace the headstocks with new...

If you truly learn the neck and get your ears and hands together cabinet drop can act in your favor depending on your approach to tuning. Agreed. When I was a bassoonist in a prior life, it was understood that intonation was all in the embouchure. It's the same with the steel - I find that as I pla...

Did you try looking for a GFI manual? Or, you can check any manufacturer they work similar - like Ford vs Chevy - same parts, different fit.

To visualize this, think of using a wrench. If the bolt is too tight, we extend the radius of the torque by making the wrench longer (sometimes with a piece of tubing). This amplifies the torque or turning force, but to get the same amount of rotation requires a longer arc. So you gain a mechanical ...

If you've done any moving things around, do the bell cranks stay in place while being tightened to the crossrods? I had a Carter and couldn't for the life of me get bell cranks to stay put when being tightened, forced me to get it to Jim Palenscar to deal with a big copedent change. This has been p...

I went through this with my BMI a few years back. I ended up calling Sperzel and they set me up. The issue I had with the 'off the shelf' tuners was 5 and 6 were too long and met in the middle. Here is the email I got from Sperzel, and the (then) correct phone number to call. https://bb.steelguitarf...

Check this out! Has anyone tried one of these? I have been looking to buy a light travel guitar and this at 22 lbs might be a good option. Thoughts? Just beautiful! Perfect road guitar! I'd be a buyer if I lived closer. Played one a while back and a student guitar it is not!

If weight/ease of portability is a requirement....
what guitar might be best for me? I'm an intermediate player and play out more than I play in... need a guitar I can toss in the car with a moment's notice and keep in the case otherwise. I currently have a ProLite and a Williams S-10 Widebody. I'm thinking of picking up a road guitar that's just a ...
