Derby string rollers
Hi, Can anyone advise where I can get the string rollers (at the keyhead) for a Derby 10 string lap steel. I'm assuming these are the same as the Derby pedal steel. Or can someone machine these for specific string gauges? Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys for all your help. I probably should have mentioned that I'm after a tuning for unaccompanied jazz/blues standards, so the root note would be useful. Also, Maj7, min7, dom7, dim, b5, #5, 6th, b9, 9th, #9, 11th. I've looked at the B11 tuning and come up with the following extended alterna...

B11 tuning for 10-string
Hi all, I've been playing B11 on a 6-string for a while now. lo-hi... B D# F# A C# E. It suits what I'm doing and I like it. That said, I have a new 10-string guitar on its way and have been trying to get my head around an extended B11. John Ely's chord programe has been a great help, but I'm still ...

Thanks everyone for the very helpful replies. I'm glad other people use the JBL K130 speaker as I was a little unsure about it. I'm off to the amp tech tomorrow with a matched set of GE 6550s (a friend deals in vintage tubes) and a stack of info off the net for setting up the amp. Hopefully I'll end...

Thanks Tim, Yes I'm aware that the voltage will be different. I have a clever and experienced amp tech who can sort that. I was interested to know how the tonal qualities would suit a steel guitar. The (bass) reviews I've read suggest that 6550s will give a 'glassy and liquid' sound, with a very cle...

Fender Bassman with 6550 Tubes??
Hi all, I've got a silver face Fender Bassman 100 with a JBL K130 15" speaker. The amps been serviced and it needs a complete set of tubes. I play a '57 Fender 6 string.
Does anyone use a Bassman with 6550 tubes (instead of 6L6) for steel guitar? . Cheers

Denny, I understand the feeling when being burnt on ebay....it sucks alright. But three bad transactions totalling $75.00 aint too bad. That equates to bad debt of about 0.2% of total revenue! Most trading business would be happy, if not proud of thoses figures. Will the FBI investigate claims for t...

GuitarBot verses 'Hotel California'(for the 283,941 time!) Come on guys, there's so much to be said for original and fresh musical thinking. Outside of the square has got to be a healthy place. If for no other reason, one may have a better understanding and perhaps appreciation for convention. Vote ...

I've got a kind of happier ebay story to tell. Recently I purchased a vintage sax from a seller in Utah, USA. On arrival, the instrument wasn't quite as it was described, so we communicated, on a civil level. In the end, the seller paid for the tech's repair bill (which was a third of the sale price...

Ok, I'm quite new to pedal steel so i hope this doesn't sound dumb. With the E9 tuning, why are the top four strings out of order? I guess its for the right hand method... is this for ease of a rolling picking style? If someone used a comping style rather than a picking style, wouldn't D# E F# G# wo...

Pedal Steel Artists......Funk, Blues, Groove
Its like a ghost town here when trying to find funky pedal steel. The music stores and library have one or two country albums only.
I've looked on the forum and came up with an album by Ron Turner #C-RT01S.
Are there any suggestions of material available from the forum? Or elsewhere?
Cheers, Pete

I play without picks and these are the pros and cons i've discovered: Pros 1. softer touch/sound for ballads etc 2. can mute the strings with the finger tips 3. more natural and comfortable feel for your fingers 4. no 'clanging' of picks on strings Cons 1. consistant volume control from strings is d...

Whats the advantage of having the top 4 standard string configuration over an acending configuration? The rest of the strings are in 'order', why not the top 4 strings, Is it for picking? I'm trying to learn and need to understand why things are, or are not. Convention aside, it just seems logical t...

Dan, thanks for the help with your tuning. I'm not from a country background (arrh, i'll wash my mouth out!) and so i'm looking at the tuning from a blues perspective. Wouldn't the low D be more benificial left in at the expense of one of the higher notes? I'm trying to get my head around this and c...
