Rich Hinman’s Patreon has really high quality lessons that do a good job of mixing theory and technique with practical examples from classic recordings. It’s the best online instruction I’ve seen.

I use mine for both rehearsal and gigs but it's a stretch for rehearsals and you would absolutely need to be miced into a PA for gigs.

This is Stu Schulman's GS-10. I added two knees and did a number of upgrade/repairs to make it play more securely (the pedal stops had gouged deep holes in the wood ledge and the pedals felt crappy. Much, much improved now.) Jon Light, if you stumble back into this thread, please share what you did...

Here's me playing my GS-10 with my buddy Gene Reeves in Terlingua a couple of weeks ago. It was rehabbed by Mike DiAlesandro at some point (seen here), who fittingly named it Bumblebee.

Plays and sounds great.

I've got three steels right now and they've all got a different RKL setup. Most instructional materials and lessons will only deal with the three pedals and the knee levers that raise and lower your Es. Maybe a little bit with the 2nd string lower on RKR. There's not really any standard for RKL so y...

The GS10s are wound lighter (around 12k) but they sit closer to the strings and aren’t adjustable so if you wind hotter you might not get the results you want. I’ve been thinking about modifying my GS to be adjustable just to replace the stock pickup as I think that’s definitely the weakest point on...

We've seen a big downturn in Austin too... Sunday afternoons just have more going on, especially during football/hunting season... San Antonio bunch has shut down until next year for that reason. Probably the secret is to get a good arrangement with a bar... and do it in the evening. This means tha...

I just lightly jab the pointy end of a Bic mechanical pencil in there. Works fine. I don't know why you'd need anything else.

Hello. For sale is my MSA Classic XL D10 8x5. It's in great condition, and plays and sounds wonderful. The real wood body and neck are striking in person. It has a BL 705 pickup on the e9 neck and the stock SuperSustain pickup on the C6 neck. It has only been owned by forum members since leaving the...
