Good stand for the Gibson Century 6?

One more question I have about the Gibson Century 6 is if anyone knows a good stand it can be mounted on. I don't like the height of a steel on my lap and prefer a stand, like I have with a 1959 Supro that has three legs.
Does anyone use a stand for a Century 6 they can recommend?
Thanks!

Control knobs for Gibson Century 6?

I have one of these lap steels (Gibson Century 6, black finish with silver fingerboard, gold control speed knobs). I would like to replace the control knobs as 2 of them are broken. I would like to use originals if possible (if available). Does anyone have suggestions for where I might find these ty...

Thanks everyone I really appreciate learning some of the history of this guitar and how it showed in so many peoples' formative years, with some still playing them! Vintage P90s can be great for sure! I will definitely proceed with caution about any eBay purchases and keep an eye out for pricing, re...

Gibson BR9 40's lap steel

Has anyone here had experience playing one of these old Gibson lap steel 6 strings-the BR9? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1940S-VINTAGE-GIBSON-BR-9-LAP-STEEL-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-WITH-ORIGINAL-CASE/261924254784 I was wondering how these models (assuming they are in good working condition) might compare sound w...

Gotter done!

I found a supplier who was able to ship the bracket I needed. You can see the old bracket and the new one into the photo below. I got the part from Michael Yahl at his PSG Parts, LLC store on line: http://www.psgparts.com/ The bracket arrived three days after I ordered it and I put it the psg last n...

Parts for a 1970s Fender-ShoBud

Hi everyone, I have a 1970s Fender-ShoBud E9 PSG 3 pedal, 4 knee lever, and I need a foot pedal and a bracket for it. If you know anyone who might have these please let me know. My repair source, who goes by the email shobud, is out of commission for a while. I have attached some pictures of what I ...

Thanks Bob I will follow the lead you suggested. As to how it broke, you see those dumbbells in back of the guitar? One took an unscheduled trip one weight-lifting evening, deciding I needed to add a little C pedal to my lifting music!

Thanks everyone this is very valuable feedback! The video of Sarah Jory changing a string while still singing and then tuning it before going into a break is very cool!
I have a Fender Sho Bud so the ball-end strings are what I'll use. I appreciate all these responses!

You got it right when you said that the time to change strings depends on the player and the guitar. You also know it depends on the brand of strings, the humidity and a host of other factors. When should a newbie change strings? You'll get a lot of thoughts about this but I would say that, as a ne...

Changing strings, shoes?

Hi everyone, For a 10 string PSG E9 tuning, about how many hours of good quality sound is reasonable to expect from a new set of strings? This may vary from player to player and guitar to guitar, but I wondered if there was a 'general average'. Of course if the strings start sounding dull, dead or t...

Thanks Lane and Dan-these are great tips and I'll definitely try them out. On my PSG there are 4 knee levers and LKR lowers the E on strings 8 and 4 to D#. The 2 is also a D# so prehaps that could be played also. The guitar is a 1970s Fender-ShoBud with 3 pedals I bought from Mike Cass on this forum...

C6 tricks on E9 PSG

Hi everyone, I have been slowly learning some E9 PSG songs using a variety of excellent sources including Doug Beaumier's E9 PSG guitar book&cd, online lessons, etc. I'm wondering if any veteran players have experience in simulating a C6 6-string lap steel sound (assuming you wanted to get this ...

C6 strings for the 8 string?

Hi SGF folks. I'd be interested to hear what your choices are for strings for C6 tunings on the 8 string lap like the Sierra (which seem to get pretty great reviews over all as far as I can see). Thanks for your time and help!
