Hank Garland Movie (Biography?) Crazy

The movie is now on YouTube and I watched it last night. Maybe this has been discussed before but I grew tired of searching the forum and thought I would make a post. Overall, it’s obviously low budget. Bad lighting and the sets for the country music scenes look like they were filmed on a community ...

Anybody Playing In Seattle Friday Night?

I’m staying in Seattle Friday night since I’m too old for red eye flights back to Atlanta. :\ If anybody is playing but not too late, let me know.

Steve,

Get with Rick Schmidt here, on FB, or check his YT page. He has studied application of Barry Harris harmony on steel. I think he wrote a paper on applying it on both necks.

If this tops the original SMS it will be great. The SMS was a my choice for a long time. Then, like most folks, I decided to try a new different direction. But lately I’ve been thinking I should dust off my SMS. And very nice to see you pay homage to your peers/competitors. This is such a cool commu...

Beautiful instrument and congratulations. That should keep you busy for a while! Admirable that you are digging in on a new tuning. And I know you have been waiting for a while and imagine the excitement and intense focus.

Enjoy your journey!

Wow! That says a lot. Johnny is known for being able to sit at about any guitar and play it well in a couple of minutes.

Jimmy’s C6 playing seems influenced by Bob White on the Hank Thompson records. Heavy on the Maj9 pedal and big chords. Or was it the opposite?

Wayne Hobbs!!!

My friend and Atlanta bass player Wayne Smith had told me about Wayne from them being neighbors at a time when they both were full time players in Gatlinburg, TN. Well yesterday Wayne was on our Georgia SGA show and he was even more than Wayne had described. Great playing on both necks with lots of ...

A lot of the top pros I admire opt for assorted Peavey steel amps for live play, if not for the studio. For them it’s their livelihood so the don’t cut any corners. Off the top of my head I am thinking of Buck Reid, Doug Jernigan, Mike Johnson, and Steve Hinson. That’s a testimony for solid state. O...

FWIW, Maurice once opined here there was no way he could do without the high 5th note, or words to that effect. Obviously other greats feel differently.

See if you can find a video of the late Sid Hudson, He was one of the best if not the best. When I was a kid there was a guy on one of the syndicated 30 minute country shows. They always showed close ups of his left hand. Can’t remember the show. It wasn’t The Wilburn Bros or Porter Wagoner but one ...

Here's my favourite Larry Sasser clip: it's Glen Campbell - a giant in American music - doing a Jimmy Webb song that was never the hit it surely deserved to be. Larry's part here is perfect; just pads in the third verse. Glen, as he rarely failed to do, gives full credit to the musicians behind him...
