Introducing Rob Clot, Sierra's newest family member. Rob is a good pal, great player and wonderful human. After his first few days of ownership, He did complain that the time he was compelled to spend playing it was messing with the quality of his housekeeping....sorry bro! Thanks for coming on boar...

I'd like to welcome Henry Nagle, to the Sierra family. Henry is well known locally for his "always the right note" guitar and steel guitar playing. He's also a sweet human and fellow instrument builder/craftsperson, working at Gryphon Music in Palo Alto. Before he passed Bobby entrusted me...

Mitsuo's design genius has been one of my primary inspirations/influences along my pedal steel design/building path. His guitars and particularly this Robostar model are the best deals there are and maybe have ever been in the pedal steel market! Heck I almost ordered one just to have some of his ge...

Welcome to the forum! The pics didn't work for me, but I'm somewhat computer challenged.

If you ever find yourself in the SF area, make a trip 40 miles north to Petaluma, where the new Sierras are built. c'mon out to the farm and check 'em out.

Huge Thanks to Greg, not only for ordering a new Sierra, but especially for the thorough write up and pictorial tour he's published on his website. Truth be told, I've done a fair bit of research over the years perusing the guitar reviews and pictures he posts. Very valuable stuff to say the least. ...

Intonation adjustment at the saddles assumes a fixed amount of deflection in the string as the string contacts the fret. Using a slide, this fixed point does not exist, therefore any intonation adjustments at the bridge would not assist in fine tuning a string's intonation unless you're able to some...

You're almost right John, believe it or not, the setup on this was not nearly as complex as a few guitars I've done since whining to you about not wanting to build loaded up guitars. I was actually a bit surprised (and stoked)at how smoothly Greg's rig went together. There were only a couple of real...

that's the boss right there, these aren't made anymore, so they're all old.

If the table moves smooth, is in decent condition and the spindle runs smoothly and true, that is a killer price!

plain and simple truth....the more crap you shove under a pedal steel, the more potential for issues and the more compromises neccesary when it comes to optimum setup. Ask yourself..."what would Lloyd do?" (3 pedals 3 knees I think) or "what would Russ Pahl do" (2 pedals 4 knees ...

I've been a machine tool nut all my adult life....forget those modern mini machines and sit tight for a Rockwell 21-100, 21-122 or a Clausing 8520. These are increasingly hard to find and can be spendy. These are real machine tools that will outlast you if taken care of. The Rockwells are the larger...

Re: Spring query

John Hyland wrote:Great looking and im sure as smooth to play. I’m wondering what the springs under the rods do?
Thanks John, those springs are called "helper springs". They lighten the pressure needed at the pedals and levers by a bit.

I could be wrong on this, but it appears that the other intact rod/bellcrank assemblies have no threads at the bell crank end. I'm pretty sure there's a set screw in one end of the bell crank bushing that tightens against the Rod to hold it in place. This is far more common than a threaded bushing i...
