Hey Lee,nice to hear from you.Looking forward to seeing you next time I get the chance. You raise some interesting points,as the bridge and nut do look a little unusual. Is the date stamp consistent with the time period that Lee Knight was making steels?Due to differences in some of the wood panels an...

Interesting.I have an eight-string steel nearly identical to the one from Subway's site in Doug B.'s post.Anybody have a link to that page on the Subway site?Or have information about that particular steel?I always thought mine was from a chopped-down multi-neck,but the one in that picture looks lik...

Sorry folks but buying a US made Fender is out of the question for me.U.S reissues are TRIPLE the price of a Japanese reissue.Nobody here has tried to claim that the Japanese models are better or that "Americans can't make a good Fender".If Fender felt that they were losing out to "ov...

Japanese Stringmasters were sold through a Japanese company called Ishibashi.I've kept an eye on their website for awhile.I have seven Japanese reissue Fender guitars which are great for gigging due to their high quality, low cost, and negligible sentimental value. The Japanese Stringmaster disappeared...

Don is one of my all-time favorites. He really got me started on steel and gave me many an opportunity to sit in on his gigs.I subbed for him in the local Hank Williams tribute. The Souvenirs "King of Heartache" cd is an excellent album with great prominently featured steel.I'm glad to see p...

I am at a loss to describe how amazing the steel playing on this stuff. If you like sixties g...

I feel a little silly getting nitpicky Andy V.,but Stringmasters were not yet available in the late Forties and early Fifties.I understand the general point you are making though.Sorry to drift so far off topic.

Howdy Gary!I'll often use a different neck in the same song if I'm going to take two choruses in a row, just so the second ride sounds a little different from the first.

Bigsby copy on Ebay!

What's up with this awsome Bigsby-style instrument supposedly made in Amarillo in the Fifties.Did this builder have any connection with Paul Bigsby or is this just an elaborate homage?http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dl ... 1404542337

I've got a bunch of these and they're all real good. The Speedy West,Ernie Ford, and Ray Price ones in particular. They all seem to be good quality radio transcriptions and sell for about 13 bucks here in the US.There are no real liner notes in any of the ones I've seen.
