Thanks Dale and Jim---I'm still working on the issue. From all appearances the explorer.exe process I have is legit but it may have ties to somthing that is infected. Thanks for the tip om AOL leftovers. I've noticed they are still running in the background when AOL is not on screen. It really annoy...

Thanks Bob. I was suspecting the same thing.
I run Spybot Search and Destroy frequently and it hasn't caught anything that changed the memory gobbling or internet data exchange I attribute to explorer.exe. Got any suggestions ?

Is there some way to keep explorer.exe running and not have it constantly talking to the internet and using up CPU and memory. My memory useage is about 280MB without explorer.exe running and if left in the process list it will run up over 1.5GB in an hour or so whether I'm visably connected to the ...

Speed up by ending explorer.exe process

My Dell 4550 running Windows XP was operating at a snails pace when browsing the internet. I have a DSL connection and was about to spring for FIOS when I figured out a work around that speeds things up to bearable. I was looking at my Task Manager-- Processes window and noticed explorer.exe was usi...

Dynalap tuner blocks are glued on with Tightbond and good even clamping pressure, As far as I know, none have come unglued. I have a prototype that is 6 years old and was glued with Elmers Carpenters glue and it hasn't let go in spite of my cranking the wrong gauge strings up and down to try out dif...

Dynalap on Hold

An increase in my regular cabinet business and some recent health issues have made it necessary to close down Dynalap temporarily. In this economy it doesn't make sense to put aside paying cabinet work for "Labor of Love" instrument building, much as I enjoy it. I expect with some effort t...

The video is not mine it was made by a customer, Jerry Gleason who was gracious enough to allow me to use it. My understanding from a post here on the Forum,is that it was recorded direct through a Sarno Tonic tube preamp. Jerry is an accomplished player and has posted some "home" recordin...

Dynalap Model #01 video

I have recently added a link to a video of the Dynalap model #01 on my website. The lap steel is the figured maple Model #01 in the website pictures. It was completed from a kit by Jerry Gleason, an accomplished builder and player who's talents are displayed in this great video. Many thanks to Jerry...

Ron ,I need a better explanation. How does putting the end of a string thru the tuner shaft and then rotating the shaft put any axial twist in a string? Seems to me it just tensions the string no matter if the shaft is vertical or horizontal. I think of it like a tape measure--- The tape goes on and...

I bought an H2 a couple of weeks ago and have used it a few times to record gigs and practice. I like it and don't see why I would need the more expensive H4. I also picked up a 4G card which should be plenty for my use. It takes a bit of getting used to as far as setting levels etc. but produces a ...

One of my customers mentioned this and thought it might be due to the outer strings being closer to the edges of the bridge. In other words they are "seeing" less of the bridge material than the inner strings.

Very cool design. I'd rethink that headstock if I were making a copy. Strings are interfering with each other and bending around posts. Looks like the bass string wanted to be wound backward. Seems like string direction above the nut was considered secodary to an artistic design on a lot of these ol...
