I saw Bobbe 8 years ago (?) at my first (and only) steel guitar convention in St. Lou, and his non-pedal playing blew me away. When I spoke to him years later about a boo-wah pedel he mailed me one of his CD's out of the blue, no charge. He is an inspiration to younger (newer) players. This instrume...

Thanks Ricky. Do you like the newfangled pedals? I want to tell you I saw you in Milwaukee at a little bar called the Uptowner (3 years ago?) near the beginning of my steel "career", and you were cordial, and inspiring. Thanks loads, Tim.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENT...

I have no way of trying them here in town. How do they differ compared to my sho-bud or fender? Tim.

Pedal advice: hi or low profile?

I've been using a Fender (Boo-wah) and an old Sho-Bud volume pedal and am thinking of upgrading to a Hilton or the new Goodrich. I imagine my pedals are "high". What would the advantantage be to going "low"? I play a Remington 2X8 non-pedal (console) sitting down. Any advice woul...

Amp Recommendations / Guidence

I played my first gig out Saturday with my new Remington 2x8, which has a great tone. My Fender Hot Rod DeVille sounded great on C6, but could not handle the low end of E13, the new tuning I’m learning, and the reason for buying the Remington in the first place. Particularly when you grab a handful ...

Thanks for all of your replys. David Donald: you are right. It seems best to just turn the gears and go. Boy can those strings stretch!!! John Bechtal: there is truth in sticking to one tuning, and learning the ropes. One can apply that knowledge to other variations later. That's why I'm sticking to...

Chris: Both Leon and Barney have the same notes -- the B note appears higher on the scale in Leon's (at the third string) than in Barney's. Do you see an advantage of one or the other? If I had two guitars side by side I could figure it out, but my music theory is not advanced enough to "hear&q...

Too many E13th's!!!

Well it's time to torture myself (and bandmates) with a new tuning, now that my C6 is (barely) bearable, and I’ve acquired a D8. I’m thinking E13 is the next step, but there are many varieties to choose from. I’ve toyed with the "Leon’ version, and it seems good for big chords, (grabbing handfu...

The radio transcripts are a lot of fun. I have Tenneshoe Ernie Ford, and it has a great live feel and good banter with the band mates. Those guys sure seem like they're having fun. It's hard to imagine turning on the radio today and hearing anything near this good. Wha' happen"? Tim.

Thanks everybody. Jason, I did not mean to misquote you -- sorry. Since my friend owns the store I would like to offer a fair price. (However, I need another guitar like a hole in the head). Any idea what something similar to this is worth? Thanks, Tim.

Milwaukeean lapsteel? What is?

A friend has this at a local music store, Rockhaus. Does anyone know this manufacturer, or any historical info? The headstock is silk-screened, not a decal. Rockhaus said they had seen the logo once before, on an acoustic box, and believed the manufacturer may be local. The sound is a bit thin. Jaso...

Console height.

I have fabricated some legs for my Gibson Console, but had to use set legs (as opposed to adjustable legs) due to materials, cost, etc. I need to cut the legs to length, and have to decide on a generic height, taking into account that I may sell this guitar someday. What is the height from the floor...

National? Dobro? Weissenborn? Help!

Well, I've stuck with this confounded thing long enough now where I am prepared to drop some real dough, but don't know what to buy. I have an old Bronson and Oahu student model now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are some examples of the tunes that are inspiring me. What kind of boxe...

Gibson Consolette legs info

I need four Gibson Consolette legs, and would prefer not to rout / modify. A store in town said they believed the threads look like old mike stands. I'm coming up with 5/16ths".

Reading links like these make it apparent what a great resource we have in the SGF. In these trying times it is comforting to feel such a great sense of community and brotherhood. Perhaps non-pedal reminds us of more simple times. Tim.
