I have had several amps through the years, and currently have a respectable collection. I occasionally use an Artist 240, and find that it's great bang for the buck. It's compact but a bit on the heavy side; however, the 4 6L6's driving a 12" black widow pretty much justifies the weight. For wh...

Hey Jerry and Mike, is Al Bruno online, or do you know? He is indeed a dandy, and I'm sure that Al would agree with me that there is a fellow in Toronto whose name is Mickey McGivern who played a whole lot of guitar and influenced a lot of players. Let us also not forget Ed Bickert or Sonny Grenidge...

Worked a gig last night with Ricky and his new Blue Darlin.' I'm here to tell you the guitar sounds just as good as it looks. What a fat, woody tone! I would imagine that ol' Rick is still a grinnin' from ear to ear. Can't say as I blame him. I'm sure she'll take care of him for a loooooong time.

Hey Rex, I have tried a Boss REV 3(too digital for me) and went back to my Boss DM3 Delay pedal (it's a delay which will give an effect that is comparable to a verb.) I would also recommend the Electro Harmonix Holy Grail. I doubt anything will match the reverb from a Fender Twin or a Super Reverb, ...

Hey ya'll, just got through listening to Herb's new cd, "Rancho Rhythm Roundup." Good stuff!! It seems like forever since I heard "Steel Guitar Jubilee." Good tune. Perhaps Herb may agree that the piano in just a few instances could have been up about 2 db's; otherwise, great lis...

Bob, So very true how some things can get turned around over the course of time. I believe the version of "Waltz Across Texas" that you're referring to was produced by Owen Bradley. Yes, indeed, Buddy Charleton and Leon Rhodes did the original cut, which was prior to my joining the Troubad...

Hi Bob, "Waltz Across Texas" was recorded on MCA Records (I think, perhaps even Decca) many years ago and was written by ET's nephew, Talmadge Tubb. After being dropped from MCA Records, we recorded an album on Cachet Records out of Canada. Although the record sold pretty well; from what I...

"For Pete's Sake" -- I thought it was a pretty cool instrumental that Pete Drake whipped up. For starters, I missed the earlier thread regarding the discussion of Pete's playing ability. Although he may not have played on a whole lot of number one hits, he did manage to sell a few albums i...

Hey Jerry, I have to agree that Ken Fisher is indeed a guru in amp technology. All I know is that I believe the Kendrick people out of Kempner, Texas, set up a couple of "Trainwrecks" for Greg Leisz and Bill Frisell to play through at the Continental Club in Austin, Texas. The best way to ...

Politics? Cliques? Etc.? Years ago I was fortunate enough to have worked with Ernest Tubb, which resulted in a personal friendship with Owen Bradley. Did I schmooze Mr. Bradley? Quite the contrary. Owen would make his way through the backstage crowd at the Opry and want to hang with me. Why? Because...

The odds are slim, but the chance does exist that a "B Team" will deliver the goods on an independent label that just might take off in spite of today's radio airplay. I can't help but wonder if the major money people are suspecting that possibility exists. Could there be a very faint &quo...

Hey Jason, I'm amazed that someone from Australia would be so well-informed on the Southern rural culture that sprang from the 30's to the present.
