I generally hate using claws on my right hand Finger picks are better, tone wise compared to bare fingers in my experience. They do take some getting used to and getting good tone out of your hands will take awhile. Do you have any suggestions on how to shape them? They just feel so unnatural to me...

Yes, the owner of tootsies, kid rocks, Rippy’s, and several other clubs actually hate steel. Currently, he only bands it from tootsies. He’s one of the partners and his name is John. I could tell a good story of when I was playing, rippys, and had a run-in with him. After he left the building, the ...

I recommend that you not use a compressor, particularly when first trying to learn PSG. You need to develop your right hand touch, and a compressor hides your faults. You need to hear those faults and correct them. I briefly used a Dyna Comp many decades ago. It did not make me a better player. Thi...

How many of you use compressors?

I'm TOTALLY new to steel guitar and got my a new Jackson on Sunday. It might be because I come from the finger-picking world, but my low strings are always booming and my high strings I always have to pop hard to keep things even. I have an old 80s Ibanez CP9 that I'm thinking of adding to the chain...

I was also deeply disappointed by Nashville. I had a friend who held their bachelor party out there, and I was excited to go since I'd only ever driven through Tennessee and had never stopped in Nashville. Broadway was tragic. Historic honky tonks where all anybody played was Top 40. I heard Lit's &...

I guess I'm confused. In the spaces I run in, "pay-to-play" refers to predatory companies that either: a. Require a certain number of ticket sales or they make THE BAND pay for the rest of the unsold tickets. (e.g. "You need to sell these 200 tickets, and if you sold 180 of them, you ...

I think you've got a lot of great options, it just depends on how much you want to spend or flavor it. Simple: As some others have said, the Keeley Caverns is well-loved. It's got 8 knobs, but is generally really easy to dial in. https://flipside-music.com/products/keeley-caverns-delay-reverb-v2 Hig...

I dont know if I could pick just one, but maybe a few for different reasons? Best smaller artist? I saw Willi Carlisle and Dylan Earl at the Kinney Family Farm on a cold night in December of 2021. Ooooh, this is a tough one. Maybe...

A Gretsch Duo Jet similar to Cliff Gallup's with the Dynasonics.

A Jumbo Gibson from the 60s... either a Dove or a Hummingbird.

And probably a 3-pickup SG in Walnut. I'd love something loaded with Super Distortions.

Good question.

Why Goodrich volume pedals?

I've been a guitar player for about 15 years and most play Ernie Balls or Dunlop VPs. I've been looking at getting my first pedal steel and I see SO MANY Goodrich pedals, a brand I had never heard of in the electric guitar world.

Why? Should I swap out my Boss?
