Joe, I am interested in knowing more about E9/B6 and all the variations used by S-12 Universal players.
I play an Excel S-12U, 8/5,keyless , and a Carter s-12U,7/5 Std.

There is a Fender Pedal Sttel site (on-line) that has the setup for Fender 1000 steels ( it's A6th tuning). I don't know what tuning S.West used.
Tom Brasshaw might have some data on this player as well.

I play a lap-6 also, and play A6th, and Emaj. You might try A6th with an E bottom (8th string)...should be very compatible to what you do on the lap-6 in C6th.

I recently bought a used Excel-Superb,U-12. I am playing and using it twice weekly at local gigs....it is light, rugged, keyless-ugly,keeps in tune better than most, compensates some for cab-drop, does not break strings!!!,sounds pretty good whenver I'm awake,and I will buy a new one when I can save...

Nice note about a great steel player. My past club experiences are similar to Richard's...I spent lots of hours at Sam's & Cowtown, and Naperdak Hall, and others during the 60's-& 70's. Used to like to see Bobby, Barry and Pete Grant when they each played at those places in those years.Great...

These are very complimentary words for Bob Simmons. I too have had a rewarding re-build experience with Bob, last year he rebuilt my 73 Sho-Bud Pro-1...the machining and finishing turned out beautifully....beyond my expectations. Thanks again Bob! All the best....

I agree with B0B, and Bob, but I have this C6th change on a Mid-left KR, because I use it most often with P-6, P-5, and P-8...if you have it on LKL like on the E-F E9th, how do you reach the P-6, &8 pedals....I play older guitars, so I can't cross-over? Long ago, as a young person, I first started out on the 6th tuning. It took me a long time, and it was much later that I learned to play in the E9th tuning. I like to play all kinds of music, so I play in the 6th a lot.
