Dicky Overbey to me was a unique and really great steelguitarist because he always played with such intensity and soul. He was one of my steel-heroes. When i first saw him with Faron Young in Road to Nashville i was blown away, to my ears it was "different", steel with a rock&roll atti...

Roger, thanks for your reply, i did see that site, and it doesn't match with what i heard from Peavey some years ago, therefore my remark about confusing information. By the way, i started this topic because i somehow couldn' find the original topic:(1501-4Dt, by Dan Beller-Mckenna), this morning af...

Peavey Black Widow 1501-4DT Kevlar cone?

Someone posted a question if some Peavey 1501-4dt speakers were made with a kevlar cone, and when i tried to delete a double post from myself it seems i deleted the whole topic, my excuses. Anyway, my Session 400 Limited came with this speaker, and when i asked Mike Brown from Peavey about it he tol...

Hello Dan, My Session 400 limited came with the 1501-4dt (small white sticker on the speaker), and i asked Mike Brown from Peavey about it (this was in 2000). He told me that my speaker has a kevlar cone, and that Peavey makes a version with a paper cone, called the 1501-4sb (shallow basket). My und...

Is it possible that the speaker plays an important role? I have one which originally came with an 1501-4dt, which has a kevlar kone. This speaker could sound a little bit harsh, and on stage "boxy" to me. From earlier posts on this forum i understood that Peavey wasn't entirely happy with ...

technical problem with '76 session 400

My Session 400 is producing a very loud hiss from the output section: the problem started after i resoldered the connections between the reverb-pot and the reverb-in-plug (there were problems with an bad connection) When i powered up the amp it produced a constant loud noise, mainly hiss. I immediat...

Hoi Chris, good to hear from you again. I simply think that this music, and especially Charleton's playing is not as well-known as it deserves to be over here, anyway i overlooked it for 10 years while l'd been searching pretty hard for cd's/lp's with this type of playing.

Ernest Tubb/B.Charleton: new dvd '60 tv shows

This is for fans of Buddy Charleton: ET record shop has a new dvd out with 4 complete Ernest Tubb tv shows from the sixties. There are a lot of close-ups of Buddy's hands, and 4 guitar/steel instrumentals! Great music from Ernest Tubb and guests, all backed-up by the Troubadours (What a band!). This...

Buddy Charleton is truly one of the greatest steelplayers around, and i'm not sure if his mid-sixties recording with Ernest Tubb are as well known as they deserve to be. The solos are among the most beautiful and sensitive i've ever heard. I only discovered them recently and had been looking for ste...
