Halloween Steel Guitar LOL!

Hey Steelers,
I have been asked to play steel guitar for a Halloween concert in October. Does anyone have ideas for Halloween tunes that might feature a steel guitar? I play with both trad. clean tone and blues overdrive. I also play dobro which may another option. I have no ideas. :(
Thanks!

I ended up using three simple mini on/off toggles. I found some (1/4"X7/8") chrome washers at the hardware store that did a great job of hiding the old switch mounting holes. I had to drill out the plate holes with a 15/64" drill bit so the mini toggles would mount into the plate. I d...

I had a bent tuner on my Fender T8. I almost bought a set until I saw the post where they are 1/16" wider, x2 sides = 1/8th total. I ended up fixing the tuner myself. The tolerances on the Fender tuner pans is very precise.

You wouldn't happen to have a wiring diagram for converting from the 3 bush button to the three toggle switches?

Thanks for the info Jeff!
Did you use mini 1/4" (6.35mm) switches or the larger 15/32" (12mm) switches?

T8 Switches

Hey Jeff,
This is a really old post. :)

On your T8 how did you have the toggle switches set up?
Simple on/off for each neck?

I would use my Peavey Nashville 1000 as a bass amp. As far as I'm concerned it's a bass map. A 300 watts clean solid state power amp, 15" Blackwidow speaker which are used in many bass maps. The EQ section on the amp is common to what is used on many bass maps with the sweep-able mids adjustmen...

I'm going to assume your using L-H GBDGBD? You might look into using an alternate tuning that will give you more harmonic options. I'm sure there more than a couple players here's that know of a couple tuning that can be used with a standard string set. Here's an old thread that you might find inter...

Hi David, No need for an apology. I think most of the players here on the forums have great ears. Having a good ear is a must if a person is going be proficient at steel guitar. It was probably better that you didn't include it.

There is one option missing. I call it "By Rote". This is where a musician memorizes a song's chord progression, leads ect... and doesn't have the ability to truly play by ear and respond to music by listening in new and unfamiliar situations. A rote musician can't quickly find a key cente...

One way to get speed is to utilize open strings with hammer ons and pull offs. Study the technique dobro players use.
Granted it's not going work in every situation but you will be surprised how much you can do.
Another tip is don't drive on icy roads. It could be dangerous. :)

Maybe try the Cma11 tuning. It can be very intuitive for many guitar players. I had a really bad cold when I made this video. I need to re-make it.

Just in case anyone needs to know how to remove this type of tuner. Step 1. Remove gear screw and gear. Step 2. Heat up round knob until solder melts on the inner shaft and knob falls off. Step 3. Melt solder from bottom of tuning machine until it breaks free. Here's a video showing this process. ht...
