Re: lefty/righty Fender

Try taking a close look at that Fender S10. My 1st Steel. From the logo and keyhead placement, it's right-handed. The pedals though, are right foot or left-handed. Is it just put together wrong? I wonder if it plays that way. Very Interesting. I'm gonna bid on the Ric. Look again, they've put the p...

The Custom badge looks like something from a 70s car... I have one of those D-10 guitars, the "Custom" badge is a non-original addition. As said, it's a Fender Artist D-10 dating from 1976-77 when 4400 models were made (S-10, D-10 and S-10 Student - which was mostly a vinyl Maverick) fini...

What bar?

Hi - I usually play with a bullet-nose so don't know much about "railroad" bars. This bar seems to have a Viking ship logo on each end. Can anyone tell me the brand please? It's plated brass.

The black S-10 3+1 looks exactly like my first steel-- unfortunately, no pics survive. . . . Aside from having only 1 KL,IIRC it played and sounded OK. Hi Dave, if yours had only one KL I think it must have been this model; https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/1241_Fender_S10_student_1.jp...

You're right, Fender Artist (mostly ShoBud parts underneath) were produced in 1976/7; 4400 in total. The range comprised; single and double 10s in black or "mahogany" - which was the maple carcase stained brown. They also produced a student model, which was a "vinyl Maverick" in ...

Thread of legs on Harmony Roy Smeck

I have a 1960s Harmony H7 (Roy Smeck) which has sockets but no legs. Can anyone tell me the thread used please?
None of the legs I have for other instruments, Stringmaster to pedal steels, will fit and the majority of bolts over in UK are metric, so they're no use to test. Cheers, and keep well, Tony

Try a search for Al Brisco (Steel Guitars of Canada). He knew Wayne Link (I'm sure) and will certainly have info. on Linkon guitars.

Here's another thought to mess up your head  I use a high G C6th on 8 string, but with this difference. It's (lo to hi) C,E,G,A,C,E,G - D. That incorporates a 7 string hi G C6th on string 8 thru 2 and also has the upper D that pedal players tend to prefer these days, but without losing the high...

Yes it's Fender (see my earlier post) and no, it never went on a ShoBud.

A lot of the 4400 units made (S10s, D10s and "Maverick" students) ended up in UK and Europa, I've gigged a D10 since about 1980 to recent retirement. Great guitars, hard to break a string with the Fender knife-edge pivot system! (only happened once on stage in all those years). I had mine ...

Thanks again for the input Jerry. The tuners are two rows of machine screws with brass hex tops operated by the same wrench as the pedal/KL tuners. The pickups are fixed, no door - so not the interchangeable type. I'm certainly happy to have, and look after, this guitar. Other brands have come and g...

The scale of this one is 24in. Is that unusual for Sierras? Or does it help to date this one?

If this helps? Starting upside down (in the case). Two legs should hinge down together at the one end and should have pedals attached to a rod running between. Cables (or maybe rods) attach the pedals to underside of the mechanism, left end. The other two legs screw in at the right. Then turn it rig...

Danny Shields' guitar

I'm looking for some history on my guitar. It's a D-11 keyless red Sierra with Danny Shields' name on the front apron; picture attached. I bought this a few years ago in England and lately decided to find out all I can about it's history. It's from the "fold-up" legs period and has a keyle...

Replacing Fender "knife edge" pivots.

I have stripped down my Fender Artist D-10 for maintenance and find one pivot blade badly worn in three places, the other worn a bit less. For those not familiar with the thing I'll explain. And, by the way, these Fenders are the ones with the ShoBud undercarriage. The fingers do not pivot on a rod....

I'm in UK so this is not for me (I got a Sierra D-11). But here's a plug for a D-11. I like a top G on C6th - with 11 strings I can have that and a D; best of all worlds!
The extended lower range on E9th speaks fr itself.

It's a Selmer "Portalectric" from about 1952, I've got one. Here's a link about them from a Hofner information site. http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/factfile ... /cat4.html . In the main their guitars were OK.
