Thanks everyone, I’m going to run a few tests. It’s a great steel, but I hadn’t played it in a bit. I’ll report back!

Nick - I think you did a great job rebuilding the pick up.

Rickenbacker DW 16 pickup volume difference

I’m sure this has been discussed here many times, but I have a Rickenbacker DW 16. The front pick up is way louder than the back. I had the rear pick up redone by the famous Nick Fryer and it sounds great on its own, but is much quieter. Could it be a wiring issue? I know it’s common that the far pi...

I thought I would go Friday, but didn’t get a chance. I’m guessing it’s in pretty good condition, so could be sold already.

It does seem like a fun steel/project. Maybe I’ll get a chance this week to go.

I’ve never tried a Recording King tricone, but love my Recording King parlour guitar.

For under $1000, the Republics are pretty great.

Who played set guitar with Louise Akeo & Her Royal Hawaiian?

I’ve been listening to Haole Hula by Louise Akeo & Her Royal Hawaiian Girls. Does anyone know who plays steel guitar on it?

Hi Tim,

I like this rendition as well. A little while ago I figured it out. I think it lays out pretty well on C6 standard tuning.

I'd like to track down and purchase a copy of Hawaii's Own David Kelii. Does anyone have or know of a copy? Preferably on CD. Or even a link to it on youtube or another site? I've only been able o find Whispering Lullaby. In particular I'd like to find Beautiful Kauai.

Thanks!

The Twelfth Fret near me in Toronto has one advertised at $2150 Canadian. That's about $1600 USD. I think their research their prices well. It's listed on their Instagram page.

Hey Nic - Do you have a favourite version or 2? I just listened to Lena Machado's version. It's great!

An update: I also had a ground issue. Took my Stringmaster to my local repair shop. He said the two necks were grounded by a staple and had come loose. He reinforced and reattached. Now that it’s back the sustain is also better. I suppose removing the screws and rescrewing helped. I may still try th...

Thanks Andy! I use that slant in Lei No Kaʻiulani. Alan Akaka helped me figure that one out. Some days I play it fairly well! I feel like slanting is the reason to play lap steel.

I put the volume on the treble side as well. Also with volume swells in mind. Currently I’m preparing for a Hank Williams gig and think a tone on the table side would be useful. But I’m happy with the way it is.

To follow up, I've figured it out in C6. I tried in E13 but in the Leon McAuliffe tuning, I couldn't get the grips/intervals.

There ya go! Seems different tunings can achieve similar sounds.
