[quote=" The vision of the project is probably the most amazing to me. I figured Mike would have some killer solos (which he does) and some cool licks but it's so much deeper than that. I've said it before, but this recording points out ..Mike you are far more than a great steel player , your a...

I ordered a 3" X 3/4" allybronze bar from Ben. It arrived today and it's a very well made product, superbly polished too!. I'm personally really pleased that we can buy a UK made product of this quality over here. It weighs in at 5.2 ounces (148g) which just happens to be bang on the same ...

Thanks for the heads up on those. I've checked the site out and there's no mention of Aluminium Bronze and was hoping to get more info on that material. Just curious really but would aluminium bronze be lighter than a stainless steel bar of the same size or heavier ? At those prices they are sure to...

The Aloha's are still made here in UK and available direct from Newtone Strings but as a UK resident I don't know what the US availability situation is.

Playing solo

I'm lucky enough to get out and play music regularly with friends but as my circle of musical friends are mainly folk orientated I never get much chance to play the lap steel I bought 3 years ago. I've been learning C6 and I recon I will have to 'go it alone' for now if i'm ever going to play out li...

Is the Hipshot straight bridge a direct swap for the older style wrap around bridge or do the holes in the body have to be modified at all ? I've never had a big problem with the curvature on the old style bridge on my pre 2011 'E H junior' but the bridge now has grooves with sharp edges worn in by ...

Like the others have said there's so much choice out there. If you can get a chance to try a Fender Champion 600 you won't be disapointed. For home use they are ideal and very compact too.

Yes 'River of no return ' is well worth a listen. Saw Roger live at the Cornish Bluegrass festival UK a few years ago. Great Dobro player.

I'm in that 7% too Allen.. the Phos Bronze just don't sound right on my 70's OMI.

Jerry, The guitar is a bit "deader" to my ears. Mike Auldridge called it midrange "honk". h That's the sound i love but i do admit it can be a bit harsh for some styles .I can see, and hear, why the new cones have become very popular. They do sound lovely. Thanks for the OMI inf...

Re: stamped cone

You might be able to cannibalize one from an old off brand guitar. Yes with all these folks putting spun cones in their Dobro's you'd think that there would be plenty of stamped cones around somewhere. I have only a basic knowledge of Dobro history so could someone tell me where the stamped cones f...

I doubt that it sounds anything like a stamped cone though. Dave Exactly Dave ...i have a Wechter and it has a spun cone sitting in there... nice enough, but I much prefer the bluesy tones of the stamped cone in the OMI for the style i play though . I see cheap imported cones offered for sale over ...

New stamped cones ?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that 'Smith & Young' were hoping to start making stamped cones at some time in the future. Does any one know if this is fact ? Is there current a source for good quality stamped Dobro cones ( spider bridge ) these days ? I wouldn't mind having a spare cone fo...

Only problem is that here in the UK they are hard to come by and when you do they are darned expensive in relation to US prices. Thanks again, Mike. Prices certainly are better in the States compared to UK Mike. Mostly that's down to the added expense of shipping and import duty and VAT over here. ...
