$25 Collapsable lap steel stand-up stand
It's been discussed before on here but it really works quite nicely on a stage. The rubber handgrips hold any lap steel in place. My pedalboard is also very accessible. It makes quite a conversation piece between songs as well. Goodwill Invacare Walker= $10 XL extension legs on ebay= $14 Black spray...

Finished
Here is Rick's finished product. It's his first lap steel but from the looks of it, it won't be his last. The bridge is an LP style, SD humbuckers, wooden rings, knobs, and control panel. It should be here next week and I'll youtube test it. I'm pretty excited. His inlay work has my head already spi...

New Custom Build by RB Customs
My buddy Rick at RB Custom guitars started this lap steel recently for me. He's been sending me update photos and I wanted to share. The inlay is all wood and has our band name on the fretboard. I'm pretty excited about it. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1029/10808_Lap_Steel_1_1.jpg http://bb...

Nice
Very cool, art really! Most of my lap steels are about as artistic as a baseball bat, and equally dangerous when swung; not these, nice job.

Good guy
I had the same experience with Jason. He answered a question I had next day and included many troubleshooting tips. I wish more people took his approach; put your name on the company and completely stand behind it.

Chandler
I'm no carpenter but the routing job was easy. I got some electrical help with the wiring. Total cost $325. I'll put another humbucker in it soon and replace the bridge with a strat adjustable or wraparound tailpiece.

Keyboard
I made my own (really had a friend do it for me) but it was also based on the ironing board style keyboard stand. Easy to move and fits in our stand case.

I used an LR Baggs M1 system with my weiss with fairly decent results. It was the middle of the road answer budget-wise but I've heard nothing but good reviews of the Sunrise

I really can only use the neck setting because, to my ears, the stock Chandler is just a piece of junk. I'll replace it one day.... one day

The center of the pickup is under the 24th fret-ish. Upon further review it's actually a DiMarzio pawn shop find. I put the SD in a different slide that I've since sold. Exact model is unknown

My ironing board
I had a buddy of mine build this iron folding stand based off of a keyboard stand. This thing folds up and fits into our stand case. It is two "I" beams hinged in the middle with non-slip cabinet liners wrapped around the top pieces. The next generation will be made of aluminum but we need...

I started with the Presonus Firestudio from Musicians Friend. It came with Studio One and it's a great little program/firebox combo. I just upgraded to Logic Pro and it is definitely a step up. I still use the Firebox for my preamps but Logic has better loops and better digital instruments in my opi...

Anyone Else Modify Their Chandler?(poor man's Asher content)
This is one of three main lap steels I'm currently playing. This one I've got in a Ben Harper CGCGCC tuning for about four songs a night. It's Ben's fault I'm a lap steel guy; heard him in middle school and thought "what is making that sound?" Chandler makes great American made steels but ...

Songwriting
The fact that the words aren't an issue means you're already halfway there. Songwriting can often be the most frustrating/rewarding part of being a musician. Writer's block, or composer's block in your case, is as common as the art itself but there are a few ideas out there that might help you. My f...

Thanks
Our live shows are pretty high energy which is the main reason why I started standing up to play slide. Robert Randolph can kick his chair out and stand up and still play his pedal steel; us lap guys are stuck. The tone bar is a Rocky Mountain Slide prototype which I'm pretty sure is in production b...

Powerslide
The tone you can get from the Peavey is worth much more than the price tag. The straps are pretty much junk but once you accept it as a lap steel you'll appreciate it much more. To have a tone knob that blends from single coil to double coil is a great touch. I'm not sold on the abstract fretboard a...

Mic
+1 for the sennheiser. Factor in never having to buy a stand for it and it's a no brainer. Double loop the mic cable around your handle and there you go. I've used it every night for years.

Stand Up
Yeah, the strap with it is pretty worthless and it's really uncomfortable... not to mention ridiculous looking. I stand up now to play all of my lap steels. I had a friend build an ironing board type folding stand that fits in our stand case. It's much easier to have good stage presence standing up....

New bullet-nosed contoured ceramic slide from RMSC
Check out Rocky Mountain Slide Company's new " Ouray Astro Dog " slide. I started using these about three months ago and the tone it produces is a secret weapon. The ceramic slides are much lighter than metal and the glass glaze makes them very warm. Doc at RMSC is true supporter of the bl...
