It's been discussed before on here but it really works quite nicely on a stage. The rubber handgrips hold any lap steel in place. My pedalboard is also very accessible. It makes quite a conversation piece between songs as well.

lap steel stand up stand
William, After I had my stroke I've been using my walker for years as a steel stand. I play at senior centers, hospitals, VFW,now.I use the shelf for my battery cube street amp, don't bother any machines in nursing homes and hospitals that way. Chuck

The best thing about stealing someone's walker is that you don't have to worry about them running after you...

mount steel on mic stand
Here's my ultralight solution- using a Traveler Acoustic Electric set up as lap steel, and a modified auxiliary gooseneck clamp-on-on holder, with lightweight tent guy-line as stabilizers. The same stand holds my vocal mic on the boom. The Traveler has a push-fit brass 1/4-20 socket to mount the movable control arm. I had to replace it with a more sturdy screw-in bushing (I used a brass tripod adapter.) This might work with other lightweight steels if you're willing to install the socket.
