I've been using 4 picks for about a year & a half & I find it's really enhanced my playing. I tried it after gigging with Gary Morse (I was on guitar) & he said he'd been doing it for a long time.

I grew up with my Dad having his own band & that's where I fell in love with the steel but my first big concert was Little Jimmy Dickens, Sammi Smith & Waylon in Scranton, PA around 1970. My 2nd was Tom T. Hall & Johnny Paycheck at the same venue. I was too young to remember the steel pl...

My two early inspirations to play steel guitar were Freddy Frey of Berwick, PA and Bill Yorks, also from Berwick. In the 60's, Freddy played a D-8 sunburst Fender with 7 pedals with my dad's band and when he quit he sold it to Bill who also played for dad. I used to help him set it up and it was in ...

Hi Jack, Unless something changes, I'll be home for about a week but not sure what days, yet. I'm sure we'll have a jam session while I'm home. Hey Bob, Heard you made it to St. Loius. I wish I could make it sometime but it seems I'm always out that weekend. Let me know the next time you head this w...

Hi John,
It was a pleasure to talk with you. I got a chance to go out front and you sounded great. I still have Jack's steel set up in my basement (Fender S-10 w/ rods, not cables).

p.s. Hi, Jack.

There was I guy I used to watch play in Pennsylvania in the early 80's (Marty Navarre)who did a single act and somehow had his steel (an old Sho-bud S-10, I believe) wired into a rhythm ace type machine. Somehow he had contacts wired to his first string so it knew what chord he was playing and his v...

Hi Kevin,
It was a pleasure meeting you & Kathy at Legends. Eddie's a fine player & such a nice guy (except he's too young to be as good as he is). I can see he was raised well. Hope to see you the next time you're in town.

Hi Ray, They might have played "The Rest of Mine," a song from about 5 years ago. He hasn't had any "real" country singles out lately though I wish he would. He sang "Eleven Roses" for a Hank Jr. tribute album which is the best "country" song he's cut in years...
