For some of you who are not familliar with Collin's steel player, his name is Van Coffee, Van is really an awesome musician who can sing Haggard and Jones as well as anyone, and he plays the fire out of a guitar. IMHO Van should have his own career someday if he ever leaves the sideman job he has had for so many years with Collin. Van comes from a musical family which used to be from the Reno area when I was there. They were known as the Coffee Boys. Van played steel and guitar and sang most of the lead, Stevie Coffee was the drumer and sang beautiful lead and harmony. Tony Coffee played Bass and sang lead and harmony. The vocal harmony was real sweet. At one point in time all three of the Coffee boys played for Collin's band along with Craig Hutchins on guitar, Man what a band back then. I haven't spoke with Van for years, but I remember him as one fine person. Go Van!
