I ain't even ckecked out every reply, I can tell you that I wouldn't expect anything but my money back. Thats it with what I have to say about the deal made.
I got something from a Forum member today, it ain't broke, it ain't gluded together and he don't have to feed me no BS and try to pull the Wool over everyones eyes about how it happened during shipping, I got it in good shape and it has no old fadded out glue on it. I'm gonna have to get off of this place if everyone starts taking sides with rip offs. Thank You

Frenchy, I guess now you have to decide if that's the guitar you really want, that will be a joy to play and not a reminder of a less-than-good deal.
Do the offers suggest it is worth it?
I wouldn't know a push-pull from a Push Me Pull You, but if it's your dream machine....
Good luck, hoping for a good outcome.

um..no offense but i wouldnt hold my breathe on that one. Its been my experience that dishonest or immoral people seldom "wake up". I'd love to be proven wrong but I dont think i will be.

Brian, John Coop makes a very good point. They won't be making any more of those Professionals. Every dime you put in it will be worth it. While you're at it have someone refinish it. Mine started out with the tobbaco reddish-brown finish that was hiding a beautiful birdseye maple. Hundreds of birdseyes and highly figured wood. That's a valuable guitar when it's properly restored and to my ear one of the very best sounding ever. Post pics of it when it's done please. I don't think Skip has much of a future on this forum & I'd think that's a giant loss for him wether he realizes it or not. Make lemonade! |

Is anyone else getting uncomfortable with this?
I think it's pretty clear that Skip at the very least made a mistake. I don't think it's at all certain that he deliberately sold Frenchy a broken instrument.
A possible scenario that also fits the evidence:
The Ballad of Skip and Frenchy
Skip plays the instrument for six years with no knowledge the crack developing underneath. At one stage some kind of badly applied lube or laquer (nicotine+ blindly sprayed WD40?) has dripped down across the entire front panel (not just near the crack) and has collected along the crack - it doesn't look like any attempt to fix anything. When Frenchy requests photos Skip takes one by pointing the camera up underneath, he's still unaware. To quote Ben: "you'd have to know it was there and really be looking for it to find it from that picture". I would go further and suggest that the flash photography actually exaggerates the crack. Even at the point where he breaks down and packs the guitar he could be acting entirely in good faith, albeit without the thoroughness and professionality you might expect from a dealer.
The guitar is additionally damaged in transit. Not the first time we've heard of this.
A day or two later he is contacted by a VERY angry Frenchy claiming there is a crack 16" long (is that what you see in the photo people?). Skip's immediate conclusion its that it has been damaged in transit - after all there was definitely no 16" crack in that guitar - and he offers to pay half the repair cost quoted. The relationship deteriorates from there and Skip, angered by what he sees as wrongful accusation from an aggressive Frenchy, ultimately does the WRONG thing and refuses to refund the guitar.
This story isn't the truth either but it IS one that fits the facts presented so far. I'm a little surprised that so many forumites are quick to see one side of it.
I don't know Skip but I did buy some Joe Wright tapes off him about a year ago through the Forum. Against HIS advice I sent him cash. Now in my experience an entirely dishonest man will take a profitable opportunity to be dishonest, especially when there is no way he can get caught and the stakes are low. Well Skip was honest that time and I got my tapes. Is this the same person who deliberately misrepresents a broken guitar for $1500 knowing there will be photographic evidence of his clumsy attempts to glue up cracks?
Maybe Skip has fallen on harder times and got more desperate. Maybe he is mentally impaired. Maybe he has no understanding of how a guitar can be bust underneath and yet sound so beautiful on top. Maybe. The point is, I don't know any more than you do. Even Frenchy sounds more willing to give Skip a second chance than some of you guys, what does THAT say about our so called brotherhood? I'm not knocking the kind offers to bail Frenchy out.
Skip, swallow your pride and do the right thing. Even if this has all gone too far and you've been slandered, you still need to take that guitar back and refund Frenchy.
PS I know, I know, someone has always has to be the Henry Fonda... or is it Tony Hancock... ?
PPS Seriously though. Someone really DOES have to be the Henry Fonda. |

Good lord man! What are you thinking? It is one thing to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but not in this case.
Quote: |

No. We do not need any more Henry Fondas. Or Jane Fondas............One of each is more than enough............
Look again at the pics. This crack was there before shipping!
That fact that the seller states that "this is my only reply" is also and indicator that he has "washed his hands" of the deal.
He'll never be able to sell another "piece" on this forum!
Every time he tries to buy or sell, we should simply link this thread into his thread.
He's outta here.......................
SK, hope it was worth it to you. You're done here. Say goodnight! |
