Johnny you could do one of mine called "I'm still in there tryin" a ballard with Lots of steel intro, lead and out,Justin could sing the snots outs of it and its got the Marty Robbins feel with some grady Martin flat-top.Gladly send you a box full of the song.  |

How about a couple of Johnny Cox originals, featuring the kinds of melodies, rhythms and chord changes that you enjoy playing the most? I'd rather hear a good original instrumental than an instrumental "cover" of any popular vocal song.
Herb Remington writes. Buddy Emmons writes. Bobbe Seymour writes. What would Johnny Cox write? That's what I'd like to hear.

Include one swing tune just to mix it up, something like "My Mother's Eyes" that Jim Murphy, amongst others, did. If there's singing, either a slow ballad like Paycheck's "Florence Jean" or uptempo like "You're Still On My Mind.

"Just One Time" by Don Gibson... (the original, not what's playing on the Internet Jukeboxes today...)
Ray Price's "Just Call Me Lonesome", and keep true to Big E's part but embellish the rest....
"Heart be Careful" by Billy Walker...
"Lovin in Vain" by Patsy Cline (may take two steels...)
"Just out of Reach" by Patsy Cline.
"There won't be anymore" by Charlie Rich.

I would suggest the beautiful Cindy Walker song "Ruidoso" as an instrumental & Stoney Edwards shuffle "I bought the shoes that just walked out on me" with Justin on vocals.
Your last CD "Life after Nashville" is one of my favourites so keep them coming. |
