Do women like the sound of pedal steel?
This is the first time i even contemplated this question. I recently sent a mixed selection of tunes on cassette to a female friend of mine who likes Country music, and other styles of music similar to my tastes. She didn't have much of a reaction other than she liked one tune because she recognized it. So, i've been wondering if it's mostly males that like the sound of E9th pedal steel? What has been your observations?

My wife (of 16 years) to this day still turns into a "mound of jelly" everytime she hears Buddys' intro to "Nightlife"......

other than the girls who ask if im the keyboard player, id have to say that most females seem rather ambivalent to individual instrumentalists as a whole, except for Kenny G.
I also remember my mothers reaction to my dad bringing home my first psg @ 2;00 one morning in 1960.....not real positive.
I once had a sweetie that loved steel guitar & Ray Price, but hated Grady Martin's gut string guitar fills !!!??!!??? .... go figure. I know they're fans when they dance in front of me & smile alot, other than that its anyones guess as to what women really like,.... but bass players & drummers do seem to get their attention

All in all, I don't think that there's a gender preference. Some people like steel and some don't. Most people just don't know if they like it or not. I think that most coutry music fans do like steel, though.

I keep on having the idea that are are more men than women that like the sound of steelguitar. To me a steelsound and a steelguitar is feminin too. But I guess it has to do with my playing

My wife (fortunately!) is crazy about the steel guitar sound.......
She loves the sound of the old Rick's as well as the sweet pedal sounds like Emmons and Hughey........but the frantic, speed pickin', shrillness that some fellas play irritates her almost instantly. It usually takes me a little longer to be perturbed by it.
She got so excited about steel guitar, she insisted we attend the Texas Jam last March and now has us booked into St.Louis. My first time since 1978.

To me a steeltone makes me think about a womans'voice.
I don't like shouting and screaming women, neither screaming steel, however, a tone to the bone-slide (wild women

My wife hasn't missed but two gigs that I've played in 25 years. That was because she was so sick she couldn't hold her head up, but she didn't want me to stay home with her and miss a job. So yes I'd say that women do like steel music. Now days, if she doesn't go, I don't make it. She's the driver.
