George L cables

Post by Mike Kowalik »

After reading the post about cables in the Steel Players section I think I will switch to george L's....but I'm wondering if the diameter will matter? Anyone have any feedback regarding the .155 and the .225 diameters?

As I understand from George Lewis, this is the same wire with a different jacket. I stopped stocking the larger diameter and only sell the .155 now. That's all I get calls for as it lays flatter on the floor.

I like the thinner, they wind up nice and look better, would guess the sound integrity is good

I have a bunch of them and I love them. Also, besides being compact and easy to make, they sound really good.

.155 doesn't take up much room in your
pack-a-seat. Makes more room for those other necessities Image

For guitar players: .155 is great for patchwork on pedal boards & racks.

Like others have said, the thin ones lay flat, and wind up nicely. I like the red wire so people can see them. That is all I use now, as I heard a real difference one day.

Both cables are very good. I can hear a difference in the sound between the .155 and .225 . The .225 seems to have less low end loss. I spoke in length with Randy Beavers at the Norwalk show. Randy told me that he and Johnny Cox compared the two types and there was a definite difference in tone that they both could hear. Randy prefers the .225 . I guess the best choice would depend opon the equipment you are using and what tone you prefer. Try then both if possible.
