David Murphy - beautiful pedal-steel music from Ireland

Post by Pete Finney »

Here's a 20-minute video from my friend David Murphy's cool new instrumental group, professionally filmed in a studio. Kind of an "ambient" approach, but with a lot of it rooted in traditional Irish airs and harp music.

I posted a while back about David and his recent album of traditional Irish music, done in a very contemporary way - very much like this video. Not to everyone's taste maybe, but a lot of folks here seemed to like the album as much as I do. Here's a link:

Here's the earlier thread on David and the album, with lots more info for anyone curious:

Thanks for posting, Pete.

Love the musicians David has put together and the track selection on that video. It all hits the sweet spot.

Pete - thanks for posting info about the video. Really enjoyed watching the group perform the songs.

David - great album! I've been streaming it over and over. Can't get enough of Bridget Cruise and Eleanor Plunkett. All the songs sound fantastic.

A quick update... I've been hanging out with David this week in his beautiful city, and the music from the fantastic live video posted above is now available separately as a download on bandcamp (it can be streamed on Spotify too, but unlike Spotify bandcamp actually supports musicians).

Nice, well done! Great music for steel guitar.

Well, we can't play Ray Price shuffles forever.

"Ambient" style works with some new Americana too; I try to fit similar sounds and feels (my licks, best I can) into a local "Americana" band. They haven't fired me, YET :)
