The first time I met Fred was in the MSA room in Dallas where he was jamming. From that first moment, there was not a single conversation between us that didn't contain a healthy dose of laughter. I always looked forward to running into him at all the shows. Gonna miss that. My condolences to his family.

Fred was one of those guys who always seemed to have a positive outlook, someone who always put a smile on my face whenever I visited with him. His sense of humor could make you shake your head sometimes, but I think Fred just enjoyed giving us all a good chuckle. He was one of the good ones and will certainly be missed.

Thanks to Fred's faith in The Lord Jesus, he is now with Him in a better place in heaven. I'm thankful and happy for that. Nonetheless, we still miss him here. He was a great guy.

My sincere thoughts and prayers go up for all his family and friends.

My deepest condolences to the family of Fred. I bought on The SG Forum a The Judge he built. I shipped it to him to add some changes. It was a delight getting to know him a little. Fred was a classic. And there is something about the guitar he made that always reminds me of an American muscle car.

Very sad. I was fortunate to purchase one of Fred's guitars and take lessons from him for a year or so.
What a great guy. He often asked me to come to church with him and I'm certain he is now with his Lord and Savior
My condolences to the family

So sorry to hear the news of Fred passing. Last time I talked to him I remember him telling me he was so ready to
meet Jesus. I know he is not suffering any longer.

Just saw this about Fred

Post by Bill L. Wilson »

I always would hangout with Fred in Dallas, Phoenix, and Baxter. Good natured, funny, and a fantastic steel player. I never could play his setup on his personal steel. That he could get a tune out of that thing was a miracle to me. But if you ever heard him play you knew he was Top Notch.

Fred along with Herby Wallace was early supporters of Hilton volume pedals. I will always be indebted to Fred for supporting my products.
Fred came to my house many times. Fred was always a straight forward honest guy who had a wonderful sense of humor. Fred liked telling jokes. Something Fred said to me will always stick with me. Out of the blue Fred said this to me: "Keith, you don't realize how famous you are."
At the time I did not feel famous and still don't feel famous. But Fred's comment has stuck with me over the years.
At a steel guitar show in Branson, Missouri Fred asked me to play one of his guitars. I really did not want to, but agreed. I have around 16 YouTube videos of me playing steel shows. Looking at all of those steel show videos, I think that Justice guitar I played on the Branson Show sound the best of all of them. Wish I had that guitar. If you have that guitar I would like to buy it.
Fred is one of many of my friends that have passed in recent years. There is a special sadness remembering each of these people and their contribution to this world. Fred---you are missed----and you are loved---your buddy Keith Hilton

Dear Miss Brenda, it goes without saying how much this pains me to hear. My deepest condolences to you. I’m so sorry.

My friend Fred, always with a great story, always walking with his God, you will be missed by me, always.

Teach the angels those “big chords” up in heaven now Fred. Godspeed to you, dear Fred. Rest easy now.

I had the pleasure of meeting Fred at Bobby Rains house in Abilene TX. He was very friendly and outgoing. I'm so glad to know Fred had a forever relationship with our Lord Jesus. It sure showed through as he meet people. May he rest in eternal peace! fc

So sorry to see this. Fred offered invaluable help and advice to me when I started my pedal steel journey. He was always so generous and upbeat, and just a fun guy to be around. My condolences to his family. Fred is resting high on that mountain now.

Oh my. Another great loss. But you can be sure if Heaven hosts a vast Steel workshop, you’ll find Fred among guys like Leo, Paul, Shot, Maurice, Leonard, Joe, Bud, ..among the many, ..even Buddy, all ready with tech and service expertise, and a joke or two, as the threshold, like a parted curtain..is passed.
Prayers from us all, left behind.
