The Browns - I'm A Lonesome Fugitive

Post by Craig Krause »

Does anyone know who played on this? It sounds like it has dobro and pedal steel.

Thanks.

Firstly, I don’t know who the steeler/Dobro player is. Secondly, I must have been in a fog and thought this was a Merle Haggard song. Beautiful rendition by The Browns! Thanks for posting Craig...Carl

Carl, you're correct, Merle recorded it and had a hit with it.

Craig,
I was curious to know who wrote the song and it was Lynn Anderson’s parents. I really thought Merle had written it. Great song either way. Thanks, Carl

That didn’t really sound completely like a dobro to me. It sounded like string bending on a six string guitar. I first thought maybe a resonator guitar but I wonder if it’s just the way the tone was set to get dobro sound.

Thanks for the replies.

Carl, yes, the song sounds like one that Merle could have written.

Peter, thanks for finding the session info.

Danny, I agree. I have heard of a "fingered" dobro which is is fretted like a regular guitar instead of with a dobro bar. Maybe that was the instrument played.

Fred, you need to record that and call it “The Fugitive From Justice”.

Steel on Brown’s song

Post by David Zornes »

That sounds a lot like Weldon Myrick-it has a lot of his inflections and muted licks he used on many of his sessions with Connie Smith. The Opry stars tended to use the Opry musicians on their sessions.
