I just saw that Jerry Carrigan passed away on the 22 of June

That didn’t really sound completely like a dobro to me. It sounded like string bending on a six string guitar. I first thought maybe a resonator guitar but I wonder if it’s just the way the tone was set to get dobro sound.

Carl, yes, the song sounds like one that Merle could have written.

Danny, I agree. I have heard of a "fingered" dobro which is is fretted like a regular guitar instead of with a dobro bar. Maybe that was the instrument played.

That sounds a lot like Weldon Myrick-it has a lot of his inflections and muted licks he used on many of his sessions with Connie Smith. The Opry stars tended to use the Opry musicians on their sessions.
