wonder how difficult it would be to get the "blessing" of the estate ? I bet Ernie Renn might be a good place to start. I'd like to see it happen. I'd buy one for sure. It's a really cool idea.

Well, personally, I don't think just a "blessing" would cover it. Both legally and morally, I feel there should be some return (maybe a percentage?) to Buddy's family or estate, and you'd also probably have to get rights on whatever image was used for the reproduction.

It might wind up being a labor of love by the time you got it all done, but I do like the idea!

If everybody is gonna worry about money & I did not come up with this to make money. Let the estate do the job & I'll buy one.

The idea was about sentiment & the joy of having one... "it kinda kept Buddy here..."

I understand, Charley. I know you may not be concerned about making money, and I know that not everybody is concerned about making money. But at some point down the line, somebody may be concerned about the money, so it's wise to touch all the bases and protect yourself if you decide to proceed, that's all I'm saying.

I'd certainly buy one, regardless of what it costs.

Well, at $39.95+s/h ....I don't think there's enough mark up to have any meat on the bone for a "profit". This would be a niche product,and,I doubt that more than a hundred could be sold. I've seen folks who thought they could move a lot of product such as this,only to be stuck with a lot of left over inventory... I think if Charley wants to get the go ahead from the Emmons estate,it'd be a fine idea. But they'd have to know that there's no profit to be had......

Someone mentioned a set of bobbleheads of famous steel players. I collect PEZ dispensers, and think it'd be a gas to have a set of steel player PEZ. The PEZ company does custom orders for various PEZ conventions, so it's not outside the realm...

I don't know how to go about any of this, but I sure don't want to see the idea die. I can't imagine any of our great PSG players not wanting to see this as well. The vision of Buddy Emmons sitting behind his guitar with that head grooving to the great sound of the PSG would be awesome and to have a collection of all of the greats, I think, would be something everyone would love to have in their music room.

I like bob's idea of two hula girls flanking buddy.
a little platform on a leg clamp for my guitar, and one for the dash. A Pez collection of our steel stars is a great thought too.

I think a GENERIC steely-looking kinda guy, with a little bowler and a smile painted on, would be the very-easiest way to go. I've been sniffing around the "KickStarter" model of fundage because I have a couple of accessory designs that will not only kill yo mama, but her 'ho FAMILY too. I don't want to make money, but (alas) I also can't quite just THROW it AWAY.

I'll volunteer myself to make a few bowler hat models with Milliput casting epoxy, for free, then these would then have to be duplicated somehow... any of you Brave New Cowboy-Worldites PRINTING plastic objets de arte yet? Yar, me neether. Grin-painter specialists?

So it'd be like $3,000 for 200 generics, then goose up the "Buddy" model with the hat and a paint-on grin.... We could surely get up at least a couple 'nother "collectable-y" steelers just with some add-on FATSO* parts, potbellies and arm flaps and such. Heck, pretty much ALL the other ones, fathead cowboy hats... hmmm.

*(Having just completed the final lap of my amazing 265 lb. to svelte 175 lb. transition, I'm pretty insufferable 'bout this stuff right now... tho I'll feel better when the turkey buzzards stop following me. Trying to explain "svelte" to grinning buzzards is tiring, SO-OO tiring, mebbe I'll just lie down & take a nap right here... Yo, Buzzy, them's skinny arm flaps, not WINGS alright?!?)

Those likenesses are pretty good Barry.
So, somebody gets a likeness of this steel player and reproduces it on a bobble-head. What harm? particularly if there's no profit.

Perhaps I mean, Buddy Emmons himself is unique and unreproduceable, and in himself, public domain.
I don't think anyone could claim ownership of his depictions (unless copyrighted) or bowler hat, for example.
Call it the Bowler-Bobble. Or Buddy Bobble. Can't copyright a proper name.... Only those in the know would be the wiser.
Just guessing. Extra cost for a pedal steel casting.

I'm thinking of just getting pictures of my favorite pickers, and try to have my own built....
I think it would only be right to contact any known family (Jean Hughey and others) to ask permission.
One would think it wouldn't be too big a deal to have theae made, as someone already said, especially not for profit.

Just a thought...If this is ever figured out, as a gesture of thanks to the family or player, maybe a freebie could be donated free of charge to them from funds received from the sell of their bobblehead. Feel free to add to or take away from this idea, just thought it would be a considerate gift.
