Eminence EPS -12 for Peavey Nashville 112!!!

The EPS-12C is rated at 450 watts. How does it behave when playing the NV112 at less than full volume. Does it still have good dynamic response and tone with the amp at studio volume? I would expect that for the speaker to shine, it really wants more power than the NV112 can put out. What do you think?

Mitch, all I can tell you is, I wouldn't have the Eminence in my amp if it didn't cut . See my first post

They are superb at ALL volumes IMHO and that is not easy to achieve in speaker design.

Jim, thank you for posting that link. I should have done so in my first post.
It has been my experience that a speaker's performance begins to decline when pushed to it's peak watts, especially for steel guitar amplification for those of us who prefer clean,punchy tones at any volume.
I deem my initial post viable information to share with those who prefer the aforementioned in speakers and steel guitar sounds.

Tommy, or some one who may know, I don,t want to sound to stupid here but before i go ripping and tearing here how does the front grill on the 112 come of ? I don,t want to damage anything. it does not seem to be fastened the same as the Nashville 400 thanks for any help I can get , or does that grill even have to come of in order to change the speaker?.

Wayne, it comes out from the back, take off the bottm pannel and set your reverb tank off to the side but leave it plugged in, it makes things easier, remove the 8 nuts holding it in and it should come out purdy easy

Gary. on another post here Tommy said that he used the MOD.9eb2c1b.this is the number of it. I ordered 1 a few days ago at AMPLIFIED PARTS. should be in the mail now I,am hoping. Tommy may confirm that him self hope iam not stepping out of bounds here Tommy. with this information.

This is very relevant. For a long time I used an EV 12L (a 4 ohm model) and it was certainly amazing at staying clean at exceptional volumes however compared to the EPS 12C it is just not as 'sweet'. The other downer is it weighs just under a ton! lol. I feel there is a difference between 'cold clinically clean' and 'sweet clean'.
The Peavey BW 1504 is/was also a great steel speaker however most BW's only get going at higher volumes probably due to stiff cones and surrounds. Larger diameter voice coils seem to handle lower volumes worse in some speakers too (more mass to get moving accurately). The sensitivity of a speaker is a very valid specification - as a benchmark 100+db is always
a good indication.

Got my telonics 4ohm 12 in today.
I just need to get my settings adjusted.
It seems to want more Mid dialed in, among others.

Went in easy except for different speaker connections.
I just clipped the fat ends off and stuck the poles into the new speaker.

No "problem" although a tiny bit of the original paper gasket stuck. I was able to recover it and keep it with the original speaker.

I talked to the Telonics folks at the TX Jamboree after talking to Herb Steiner about his installation.

I am very, very happy.

I installed a new EPS-12C, in my NV112, today & all I can say ,is WOW!!

The ,honk,is gone & it cleared up the ,Mids, 100%

Im going to install the EPS, in my TC 12" Split Back,
tomorrow just to hear the difference,,,
I don't know how the 12_" split back,can get any better, but Im just the curious type

The retail price is $209. From places on the internet such as Amazon.com.
Guitar Center and Sweet Water. I think Kevin Hatton here on the forum keeps them in stock. You may also try buying direct from Eminence.

Yes, I have them. A serious speaker that will improve a 112 200%. To me the Blue Marvel speaker was always the weak point. If you want to hear what a 112 really sounds like get one of these. The Eminence EPS-12C is the bomb. Makes a 112 a contender. Dramatic difference. Not cheap. Special Forum member price.

Tommy has made a good move by swapping out the stock speaker. I can't stand the standard Nashville 112 as it has so much mid honk and the speaker compresses severely and loses definition when pushed hard. We have to remember that this amp was not designed to be played out on medium to large gigs, rather in small rehearsal rooms and bedrooms.

Jim Evans and Dave Beaty both talked about Eminence loudspeakers at a sound seminar at this year's Dallas Show. It was maintained by Jim that the special Neo speakers that Dave commissions from Eminence for his Telonics company are even better for steel guitar than the EPS -C range.

By upgrading the speaker and the reverb tray, Tommy now has a completely different and far more efficient amp than before.

I have heard about the Peavey Honk for years and years. Could someone please post a demonstration of the famed Honk with a comparison to an amp without the Honk.

I am a Steel player only. maybe that is why I never really understood the HONK. I just get the tone I want no matter what the amp and play.

I'm having a little challenge installing an Eminence EPS-C in my Peavey Nashville 112. Although I've removed the original paper gasket from the baffle board, there still isn't any thread available on the mounting bolts for the locknuts.

Maybe I should remove a little of the foam on the back of the speaker around the mounting bolts.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
