"Tautology" comes from the Greek "taut" meaning "the same". When two arguments or statements say the same thing in different words they are "tautological". So "tautological" can only refer to something else, after all, it's an adjective, whereas "nothing" is a noun. "Nothing" is tautological with "nullity", but it's not tautological with "tautological."
