I always liked what Jerry played on pedal steel. He had his own sound even as a newbie and his playing fit and enhanced the songs, regardless of what he lacked as far as technical proficiency.
He also inspired young people to become interested in the pedal steel guitar and the country side of music.

Thanks for that link Jim. There more good stuff on that site about Clarence White and others too! As far as the Doug Sahm and friends, I wish the steel was up a little in the mix. Good ol' rough and gritty hippie honkytonk!

Wow! Thanks for posting that. Big fan of all but the Leon Russell tracks made it for me. I love his version of the Stones Wild Horses and I had never heard the Christmas song Sliding into Christmas before. Did any see the film about makeing the Union by Leon and Elton John. Great film lots of great musicans and Leon has brain surgary and comes back to the studio.
